February, 2011 - Garrett Cagle1814 viewsGarrett poses with his "Big Ben" cleat!
From Tammy: "He is the happiest little boy ever. We are making plans for a 'Show and Tell' day in his class for us to take the cleat. My little boy will never forget yesterday. I will however, never forget what Ben has done for a little 7-year old that thinks the world revolves around his hero. Now he is able to cherish something that will forever mean something to him.
"It means a lot to us that he cares enough about his little fans to do this. My little guy, as well as all of us, will forever be big fans of Ben. I will NEVER FORGET THIS."

Pro-Day Workout - March 25, 20041568 viewsThe pro-day workout of former RedHawks quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was the attraction, and a half-dozen draft-eligible ex-teammates tried to catch some of the refracted attention.
Scouts or assistant coaches from nearly all 32 NFL teams made their way to Oxford. Two head coaches, Green Bay's Mike Sherman and the Giants' Tom Coughlin - along with Giants' general manager Ernie Accorsi and three of the club's scouts - were there, too.
Charting each of the players' moves with stopwatches and clipboards, scouts watched them lift weights, jump, sprint and run agility drills before congregating in Yager Stadium for the main event: Ben throws.
He threw long and short, soft and hard, down the middle and toward the sideline - showing off his impressive arm and timing on the deep out pattern.
Roethlisberger ran 4.76 seconds in the 40-yard dash. And he clocked an 11.8 - considered fast for a quarterback - on a three-cone agility drill.
The Packers have the 25th pick in the first round and a quarterback named Brett Favre, but that didn't stop Sherman from making the trip.
"He's probably going be gone before we pick, but I always want to cover our bases in case something happens - he falls or we move up," Sherman said. "I thought he had an excellent workout. He did everything here he does on tape. You have to watch the game tape to really appreciate what kind of quarterback he is and what kind of leadership skills he has."

February 27, 2011 in Norman, OK1908 views7-year old Cooper and his big brother, 11-year old Brett had the opportunity to meet Ben in Norman, Oklahoma on Sunday, February 27th.
Ben was in town to attend sister Carlee's games as her Oklahoma Sooners finish out final home games of the season.
According to the boys' grandmother, Cheryl Kent, Cooper is a "huge" Ben fan as well as a big Steelers fan and has been since he was 3-years old. "He knows everything there is to know about Ben," said Cheryl. "He can even give you details about the Super Bowl when they beat Arizona, he was 5 at the time."
Cooper wears his Big Ben jersey and carries his football to every OU Women's Basketball game in hopes that he will see Ben! As Cheryl put it, on Sunday "luck was on our side, he was there!"
Cheryl snapped a photo of her grandsons with Ben after the game.
"Ben was so kind to autograph Cooper's football and meet the boys after the game! His small act of kindness made a little fan the happiest little boy in the world. I am so impressed at how nice Ben was and how he went out of his way for these two little boys."
*Thank you so much to Cheryl for sharing the photo and story!

February 25, 2011 - Posing with Jim Kelly1194 viewsWarm smiles on a chilly day - Ben and Jim Kelly in Buffalo, NY after dining at "Pete's Place".
Funny story from the Buffalo News (March 5th edition):
"Big Ben in Little Valley"
Deputy Cattaraugus County Clerk Alan Bernstein had a brush with fame last week.
After opening his work area in the county center last Friday, Bernstein walked to the Department of Motor Vehicles office to get coffee. With a greeting to the clerks and some customers, he did a double-take at a very tall man at the counter.
“You look just like Ben Roethlisberger,†a clerk said to the man, referring to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback.
The man pushed his paperwork forward to register two snowmobiles, and the name on the form confirmed his identity.
“Roethlisberger just kept smiling at me,†Bernstein said. “They said I squealed with delight, like a kid on Christmas. I’ve been a Steelers fan since I was a kid.â€
The quarterback, who was spending time at the Ellicottville home of former Bills’ QB Jim Kelly and was seen leaving the center in a vehicle driven by Kelly, signed autographs and was very pleasant, Bernstein said.

Ben's Foundation at work1906 viewsFrom an article on February 23, 2011 at KTAR News in Phoenix:
The Phoenix Fire Department's urban search and rescue team will not go to New Zealand to help with earthquake recovery, but the team still spent Wednesday morning training its search dogs to deal with disasters.
A firefighter was lowered into a hole under concrete rubble in Tempe and it was up to a black lab named Big Ben -- after Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger -- to find the trapped man.
"Ben Roethlisberger actually donated dog food for a year and 15 annual physicals for our dogs," said Fire Capt. John Dean.
He noted Big Ben found his man in a matter of seconds, while it could have taken firefighters minutes or hours.
"Even with all the technology we have -- and we embrace it, we're always looking for new ideas and new things -- you just can't beat that dog and their nose, and they're nice to have around, too."
