September, 2010 - Working with Mr. Whitfield2036 views "My entire adult life has been in football. Had a chance to play with Coach Trexell at Youngstown State, I was Assistant Coach at the university of Iowa. And when I was at Iowa Ben came in as a freshman and put on a great show. He had an 80 yard touchdown run as a Freshman....yeh, an 80 yard run as a freshman. You can check that out, it might be on YouTube. On the field that day, Bob Sanders (now with) the Colts, Aaron Campman and at least 7 or 8 other current defensive players were on the field and he had an 80 yard touchdown run. I knew the guy was special then." -- George Whitfield, from his interview on 93.7 - The Fan, October 5, 2010.

September, 2010 - Working with Mr. Whitfield1901 views"For myself, I've been training QB's out here in San Diego. I have Whitfield Athletix, with an X, and we have high school and college guys. Over the last couple years I have had some opportunities to work with some agencies to get guys ready for the draft, who came out to train with us. Last year we worked with Tony Pike who came in from Cincinatti, Rusty Smith from Florida Atlantic who is now with the Titans, Hunter Cantwell came out from Louisville, and now he's with the Baltimore Ravens. Had a chance to work some pro days and push these guys through. It's kind of similar. They're out there for three months...their football lives depended on how sharp they can show up to their workouts, and do they have their weaknesses knocked out. So I was used to this kind of setting, this kind of regimen. I know for Ben, for pro quarterbacks in season, they're not used to this type of work. But it went well, and I'm excited that he's excited." -- George Whitfield, on 93.7 - The Fan, October 5, 2010.

September, 2010 - Working with Mr. Whitfield1812 views“He likes the fact that this is like a one-month mechanics camp. He’s a very self-aware quarterback. He’ll say, ‘I pat the ball, I overstride, sometimes I’m sloppy in my drop — let’s work on those things." -- George Whitfield, to SI.com's Peter King.

September, 2010 - Working with Mr. Whitfield1437 views"For me, when I had a chance to interact with him, It was awesome. He was carefree. He's very honest - you ask him a question, he doesn't take a whole long time trying to process it, figure out how he should put in it...he shoots straight. He's a funny guy. He's competitive, we played everything from ping-pong to even...I put up my imaginary 5 NBA players vs his and we'd debate which team should win...he talks football and he knows the game. He has a very deep history of the Steelers. He would talk about Rocky Bleir, and Ham...he would speak an awful lot about Swan and some of the Super Bowl teams. I know he has a rich appreciation of Steelers football.
"We talked about his draft process, his high school experience and things of that sort. He's very candid, very easy to be around. I watched him with other Pittsburgh people, at restaurants, coming on and off the field with people wanting a picture or an autograph...there's a lot of flexibility with him, and until you get a chance to tag along with someone in his spotlight you don't appreciate what he goes through day in and day out....and there are some people that were awesome and said 'hey Ben good luck' or just wanted to pat him on the back. Other people more demanding...we'd be in the middle of a training session and you would see people walk right into the drill. He's sweating and going hard. Ben would stop every time, take the marker, sign the autograph, take the photo, he would chat people up. And you know he's cooling down. His arm's cooling down and he would start the training right back up....never a complaint, never any resentment about it. He would just keep rolling. From that standpoint he really was remarkable in a lot of ways. -- George Whitfield on interacting with Ben, from his interview with 93.7 - The Fan, October 5, 2010.

September, 2010 - Working with Mr. Whitfield1388 views"I hooked up with Ben through his agent. I had a chance in the winter time, we were getting some guys going in off season training, and Ben flew out to California to meet me and we had a chance to work out some. Once the circumstances hit I was unaware of the separation and the gulf that goes between a team and the suspended player. I didn't know he was going to be on his own until his agents called. They said, 'Hey, he's gonna be out there on his own, and he'd like you to come.' And I had a chance to talk to Ben and he said 'George I'm excited and I'm really looking forward to this opportunity. I've got to make the best out of this deal.' and I said 'I'm in.' I didn't really have a great grasp of what he was gonna be like and where he was, with everything that was going on. I just knew there was a task and really hoping that he'd be game for it, and he was." -- George Whitfield on 93.7 - The Fan, October 5, 2010.

September 20, 2010 - Chris Tomlin Concert7887 views"The show was awesome - Chris' music delivers a strong message and his talent is unreal." -- Ben
Ben thoroughly enjoys the music of Christian artist Chris Tomlin. Ben and Chris have become good friends, and for his mother Brenda's birthday, Ben took her and his dad to Chris' concert in Pittsburgh.
