August, 2014 - Training Camp540 views“Ben Roethlisberger relishes teaching roleâ€
From Scott Brown, ESPN.com:
he most hands-on training camp of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s career ends Friday when the Pittsburgh Steelers break camp after spending the last three weeks at St. Vincent College.
That doesn’t mean that Roethlisberger will stop going over painstaking details with his wide receivers or surrender his duties as a de facto coach when the Steelers start practicing at team headquarters next week.
“It’s been fun it’s something that I need to do and want to do.†Roethlisberger said Thursday after the first of two joint practices with the Buffalo Bills. “The coach can tell them what they’re supposed to do but if I tell them what I want them to do it’s a big difference. It’s been a good [camp] in that sense.â€
Roethlisberger said he’s never coached the wide receivers as much as he has this camp, and it makes sense that he has assumed even more of a leadership role. Roethlisberger is entering his 11th season and has never had more ownership of the Steelers’ offense. He is also working with a wide receivers unit that is generally young.
Just as Roethlisberger has high hopes for that group, he is also pleased with how the offensive line has come together in camp.
“They have just such a cohesiveness as a unit,†Roethlisberger said, “and it’s something special.â€

November 25, 2016 - Lil’ Fan Friday – Thanksgiving Weekend Edition!476 viewsThat’s right! We have another Big Ben turkey contestant!
This one was made by 6-year old Kayla Hawley:
“My first grade daughter’s project was to disguise a turkey to keep it from becoming someone’s Thanksgiving dinner. Kayla has been a Big Ben fan from the beginning! One thing to know about Kayla is that she loves everything ‘girl’. She’s a princess-loving ballerina for sure. But when it came time for this project she chose Big Ben all on her own! Kayla sports Ben’s jersey on game days and cheers for him above everyone else. If he’s ever not playing she is heartbroken. This girl is a true fan!†— Michelle Babusci.
We think that’s just good parenting showing through! Well done, Kayla (and mom!).

The Trip To The Super Bowl1232 views"He made an incredible tackle that saved our season." -- Joey Porter, from "America's Game: 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers".
2005 AFC Divisional Game - Steelers @ Colts:
With a minute to go, Pittsburgh led 21-18 and was going for the kill shot. Sure-handed Jerome Bettis whammed into the middle of the Indy line for the insurance touchdown. Bam! The ball popped out on a hit by by linebacker Gary Brackett. Living rooms all over America exploded. Nick Harper picked up the ball -- the same Nick Harper who'd been stabbed in the knee in a domestic dispute a day earlier -- and instead of waiting for a blocker to help, he sprinted up the middle of the field as Ben Roethlisberger, backpedaling, tried to get into position for a game-saving tackle. And Big Ben got a paw on Harper, forcing him into a stumbling fall at the Colts' 42. Still time. Plenty of time. Manning got the Colts into field-goal range to tie and send it to overtime, but Vanderjagt was wide right from 46 yards. Steelers exhale. Steelers win. -- Peter King.

Thank you Ben!566 viewsYou mean a lot for Anna Sophie!! You sent her an autographed photo which we appreciate with all our hearts! God bless you!
My lovely daughter underwent a second bone marrow transplant on March 21, because of the Leukemia diagnosis. We are so blessed that everything came on Divine time from Our Lord.
Anna Sophie is doing great. Today she has been declared Grafted, which means that She's been cured.
Today that we received the count on her Neutrophiles, and it was amazing, Immaculate!!
Since the diagnose, on Nov 7 in 2012, I've been writing a diary, always inspired, somehow by the spirit of the Steelers team. Anna Sophie is always keeping his Ben's Autograph, even at the hospital (she is still in the hospital due to post-transplant care). That is something that I will always appreciate. -- Esteban Manuel González Cárdenas

"My first Steelers game"513 views6-year old James DeSantis wanted to share the story of his exciting day at Heinz Field this past season with Ben and his other fans. He wanted it to be his story, with just a little help from mom and dad:
My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers! I love watching the Steelers and Big Ben on TV, but I really wanted to go to Pittsburgh to see a game with my daddy. It seems like he gets to go all the time! So on August 24th we loaded up and daddy drove me from Ohio to Pittsburgh for the preseason game against the Chiefs. It was a long drive but I didn’t care!
Before the game my daddy took me to a store so I could get my own Steelers jersey. I had a few choices, but of course I picked #7! We went to a place called ‘Station Square’ where daddy took me on a boat and we rode across the river to Heinz Field. It was so big!!! My daddy found me a good spot to watch the game. We had fun watching the Steelers, and I cheered extra loud for Big Ben!!
I cheer for the Steelers to win every weekend, and sometimes I cry when they lose. I like the Steelers because they play good. Ben Roethlisberger is my favorite player because he is a great quarterback. I hope he gets to win another Super Bowl.
When I grow up I will play for the Steelers. I will be #19 and Big Ben will pass me the ball for a touchdown. Go Steelers!
From James’ mom, Mardee:
“James was born with a genetic disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). He is still walking and running, but has low stamina and uses a wheelchair or wagon when walking any long distance (like into the stadium). His latest accomplishment is that he figured out how to maneuver his body to be able to ‘punt’ his football. He is so proud of himself!â€
We’re proud of him too! Go James!!! And thank you for sharing your fun day with us!
