Ben gains a new fan1166 views…and her name is Zena!
Zena is a 1-year old Rottweiler and is in training to be a search dog with Ohio Disaster Search Dogs & the Bellbrook Fire Department, which is just northeast of Cincinnati.
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation distributed a grant to the Bellbrook Fire Department earlier this month that will not only help train four K-9 teams, but will assist with updating the aging Vectren Bellbrook Fire Department Search and Rescue Canine Agility Site, managed by the organization, Ohio Disaster Search Dogs. In the past 10 years, the site has hosted K-9 teams from across the nation to provide integral training and practice.
“Grant funding will ensure out agility training site continues to be available to enhance training programs of these local and national assets,†said Captain Athena Haus of the Bellbrook Fire Department.
Zena wanted to don her new #7 jersey to show Ben just how much she and the other K9 teams appreciated the grant, which will allow them to train to become the best at what they do!
*Thank you to Captain Haus and the Bellbrook Fire Department….and of course, Zena!

May 4, 2013 - Sports Vault Shop at King of Prussia Mall1035 viewsI have been looking forward to a chance to meet Ben for quite a while, so when I saw that he would be at the King of Prussia mall I arranged for the photo op. My friend Mollie did the driving (yes, that is a true friend) and Tracy came along for a fun day. When we arrived I was amazed at the length of the line -- and the sea of number 7 jerseys! From far back in the line we knew Ben had arrived by the screams and cheers that went up. After that the line moved fast. I was taking a photo for the gal in front of me and when I lowered the camera, a tan and smiling Ben was waiting for me to step up. Yeh -- butterflies!
While they took the photo I said something about hoping I wouldn't pass out!! Of course, the picture was taken while I was speaking. Knowing how excited I had been to meet Ben, my friends teased me about my head exploding! I must say that Ben was gracious and friendly, and truly seemed to enjoy meeting his fans. I am glad I had the opportunity! (Thanks Erin, Mollie and Tracy for your help on my adventure!) -- Jan Banko, Nescopeck, PA

Tony Gregory636 views"He passed away three years ago. Tony was the biggest Steelers fan ever. We put my brother-in-law's Big Ben jersey in his casket. I know that up in heaven Tony watches over the Steelers, and he has Ben's jersey with him for eternity." -- Tony's sister, Robyn Gregory.
"He owned Ben's, Hines' and Jerome's jerseys, several t-shirts and several sweatshirts. He always requested them for birthdays and Christmas. He would always go with Dustin to Westys ( bar at the bowling alley) to watch Steeler games and drink his sodas." -- Tony's sister, Marla Gregory Richardson

Training Camp - August 5, 20101349 viewsHi Erin,
Words cannot describe how excited I am (still) to have attended the August 5th and 6th training camp sessions of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have been a fan of the team since 1997 and a fan of Ben since 2004. At the camp, I was amazed to hear the loud cheers for Ben as he came out to practice, and to see so many fans wearing his jersey! The cheers lasted throughout practice as fans watched Ben closely run drills with his offense. He looked very fit and relaxed; he laughed and joked around with his teammates, especially Hines Ward!
Unfortunately, after practice, most of the players, including Ben, were carted off the field and I was unable to get an autograph. Hopefully next time I will get one!
This was my first Steelers training camp experience and it will certainly NOT be the last!! I cannot wait to see Ben and his teammates on August 21st at their pre-season game against the NY Giants at Meadowlands stadium.
Have a great year, Ben!! GO Steelers!! Go Ben!!
Sincerely,
Elli
