Getting ready for the NFL Draft....2623 viewsFrom an article featured in "SI on Campus", April 15, 2004 - After announcing his intent to turn pro following Miami's win over Louisville in the GMAC Bowl, Roethlisberger went agent-hunting. Or, more specifically, he became the hunted. He was deluged by dozens of agents, some more dubious than others, a few offering Roethlisberger "crazy amounts of money," he says, to represent him. Ultimately, he settled upon Leigh Steinberg and his associate, Ryan Tollner, on New Year's Day. Less than a week later Roethlisberger arrived in Newport Beach, Calif., to begin his metamorphosis from beefy, mid-major college stud to prototypical NFL quarterback. He moved into a furnished luxury condo on Jan. 5 and over the next two months did nothing, he says, but work out. "Southern California was a bit of a culture shock," he admits. "It seemed like all the cars were fancy and all the food was healthy. It was big, and things just seemed complicated."

"Big Ben runs over a linebacker"3364 viewsFrom the blog, "Off Tackle Empire":
Showing up late at Yager Stadium to see a Miami (OH) football game..typically doesn't pose a problem for seating. So imagine my surprise when I showed up five minutes after kickoff and saw 30,000 odd fans packing Yager for a chance to see Ben Roethlisberger and the ranked RedHawks play a night game on ESPN. Game details are sketchy in my mind (we won), but I remember one play like it was yesterday.
4th and 14, Miami is stalled around the opposing teams 35 yard line. Too close to punt, but too far to kick a field goal. Roethlisberger took the shotgun snap, avoided a blitzer, and crossed the LOS to scramble. Our section groaned, seeing a linebacker converging on Big Ben. To our surprise, the 240 lb Heisman candidate lowered his shoulder and punished the defender while his legs churned angrily. Skidding over the knocked down LB, Roethlisberger fell forward for the back breaking first down. We exploded in celebration, fueled by a feeling of surprise (he can run that fast?) and the general exuberance that envelopes college crowds.

February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend2322 views“When they called and told me, it was an awesome honor. I am really proud to have graduated. People were laughing because my jersey was already retired. But to be in the Hall of Fame with the people there, it’s a super year. I think it speaks highly of Miami as a university to honor me at the same time of graduation. I think that speaks on how important they think of academics.†– Ben, during his graduation week from MU, May, 2012.
