2012 Troy Polamalu Poynesian Luau1400 viewsBen poses with Nick Muna, who performed at the event.
From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
The lucky 425 guests who got their tickets early made their way to the Westin Convention Center Friday night where the call of conch shells and Kukui nut leis welcomed all.
A traditional luau performance by Netane Polynesian Entertainment and the Fiji and Common Kings provided an authentic South Seas soundtrack to the soiree as well as spectacular ceremonial dances.
Steelers No. 43, Troy Polamalu, with his wife, Theodora, and their sons, Ephraim and Paisios, mingled during cocktails with guests including 84 Lumber's Joe Hardy, Jan and Richard Piacentini, Dick Singer, Bill Baierl, Dr. Joseph Maroon and The Pittsburgh Foundation's Lindsay Aroesty.
The party benefited the Troy Polamalu Football Camp in American Samoa and the Harry Panos Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation, named after Theodora Polamalu's grandfather, which helps military veterans. Sponsored by Head & Shoulders and the Citrone family, the evening featured lots of flowing locks and flowery shirts.
Many of Polamalu's teammates were among the guests, including Ben Roethlisberger, Ziggy Hood (with Sara), Rashard Mendenhall, Casey Hampton, Charlie and Latasha Batch, Jerome Bettis and Heath Miller. Ryan Clark (with Yonka) and WDVE-FM's Randy Baumann acted as official live auctioneers, with Brett Keisel and James Harrison jumping in to encourage some major bidding. "Polamalisa" -- a "Mona Lisa"/Polamalu hybird painting signed by Troy -- brought in $12,000.
