Sprint "Power to Play" min-camp1742 viewsDavid Burke of David Burke Photographers (http//www.davidburkephoto.com) was kind enough to send me the photo of his handsome son Damon posing with Ben this weekend at the mini-camp event. According to David:
"Saturday, my son Damon, had the awesome opportunity to hang out with Ben Roethlisberger for a mini-camp. Damon told me that Ben threw 3 passes to him, but he dropped the first two. He said that on the third pass, Ben said, 'Go Deep Damon, Keep Going Damon!' So Damon ended up catching a 55 yard pass from Ben Roethlisberger! How cool is that catching a bomber from the Super Bowl XL Champion Quarterback? Once in a lifetime opportunity!
He told me that it hurt like crazy, when he caught it! Damon's uncle Nathan, was gracious enough to invite him to the mini camp."

Sprint "Power To Play" mini-camp2476 viewsNEVILLE ISLAND, Pa. March 17, 2007 -- Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hosted a minicamp for youngsters on Saturday at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center.
Thirty-three children won an essay contest on the benefits of hard work to get the chance to meet Big Ben, and even catch some passes from the Steelers star quarterback.
They also took part in sprints and a football field obstacle course.
Big Ben told Channel 11, "It's an opportunity to come out here and share some knowledge, some wisdom and some fun with these kids and share the game of football."
Roethlisberger also talked a little bit about the coaching change this year.
He didn't say much about Coach Bill Cowher's departure. But he is getting acquainted with new head coach Mike Tomlin.
Ben said, "Yeah, I've talked to him many times. I've been working out in there and had dinner with him and so we've been able to it down and talk about a lot of things."
This offseason has been pretty relaxed for Big Ben.
He followed his alma-mater, Miami of Ohio, during the team's run in the NCAA Tournament. Miami lost to Oregon by two points in the first round.
About his offseason, he also told Channel 11, "I've done a lot of traveling, golfing, watched my sister play basketball. A little bit of appearances like this with Sprint and football camps."
Roethlisberger now says his focus is on the upcoming season. (1 votes)

Ben Roethlisberger reaches out1578 viewsBen spent some time over the weekend of May 18-20th, 2007 talking to local children about the dangers of drugs at an event called "The Alliance".
He spent two hours at the event, talking to the kids and giving out awards.
Ben had this to say:
"I've never used drugs in my entire life and I'm very proud of that. That's why I'm very happy and anxious and eager to do this, because I wouldn't feel right if I did drugs or do drugs and come here and tell kids NOT to do it. That wouldn't be right for me." (2 votes)
