February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend2636 views“When they called me about this and said you’re going in with him [Hoeppner], it’s the only way I would have ever wanted it,†Roethlisberger said. “The only thing that would have been better is if he were here. I know he is here in spirit. I wouldn’t want it any other way.â€
Jane Hoeppner, the wife of Terry Hoeppner, represented Terry at the ceremony and agreed with Roethlisberger.
“Ben said it best,†Hoeppner said. “When I was given the announcement that Terry was going to be put into the Hall of Fame and Ben was going to be put in at the same time, it was perfect. And it was as it should be.â€

February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend2341 views“Going in with him, it doesn’t get any better than that. It’s an honor to get in. But I owe so much to him, for my career, my life, and who I am as a person. A lot of it is because of him. I have always said he was like a father to me. He would be one of my best friends today. I still think about him a lot. To go in with him, it doesn’t get any more special than that.†– Ben

February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend2592 viewsBen does an on-air interview during the MU vs Akron basketball game.
Some of the highlights:
On how he feels about being inducted into the MU Athletic Hall of Fame -
"It's an awesome honor to be able to come back. I've been blessed to have my number retired, I graduated this last summer, and now to go into the Hall of Fame, it's really a neat thing to do, and it's even better to go into with Coach Hep! I know he's not here physically, but he's here in spirit and it doesn't get any better than to go in with a guy who was a mentor to me and one of the main reasons I came to this school."
On whether he knows MU's current quarterback, Zac Dysert -
"I've actually been able to establish a good relationship with him, talking to him quite a bit, just encouraging him. I know what he's going through, I know how hectic it is. I'm just being supportive and telling him, 'it will get easier, I promise'. (smiles). "
On being a new dad -
"It's really a neat thing to be a father. It's awesome!!"

May 6, 2012 - Graduation Day 2603 viewsIt’s been a big offseason for Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. First he graduated from Miami University, and now he has been selected as one of six individuals to be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame later this year.
Roethlisberger, who played at Miami from 2001-03, holds all of the school’s major passing records, including passing for 200 yards or more in all 14 games in 2003, also an NCAA record for most games in a season passing for 200 yards or more and consecutive 200 yards plus passing games.
What makes the induction really special for Roethlisberger is he is going in the same year as his former coach, the late Terry Hoeppner (photo above). Hoeppner, who died of brain cancer in June, 2007, spent 19 seasons at Miami, and was the head coach during Roethlisberger’s time at the school. Miami had a winning season each of Hoeppner’s six years as the school’s head coach (1999-2004).
“That was the biggest thing for me,†said Roethlisberger of being inducted with Hoeppner. “It’s an honor to go into the Hall of Fame, but to go in with Coach Hoeppner kind of made me tear up a bit and gave me goose bumps. To me that means more than going in myself. It will be an emotional day.â€

May 6, 2012 - Graduation Day3644 viewsBen poses with his wife and family.
From USA Today:
Sunday would be a fine early Mother's Day present.
"Nine years later," Roethlisberger said, "we finally got it. When I told my parents, my mom teared up."
There was never a question of not marching. This day was for the family. Audrey Roethlisberger's first reaction at seeing her grandson in a graduation gown? "It fits."

May 6, 2012 - Graduation Day5521 viewsBen poses with his wife Ashley after receiving his diploma.
From USA Today:
Roethlisberger’s autumns have been kind of busy. And something always seemed to prevent him from enrolling in time for the winter term. AFC Championship Games, for instance.
But the Steelers were quick outs against Denver the past season and the morning after the defeat, his Miami academic advisor sent him an email. Roethlisberger figured it was a note of condolence. Instead, it was a call to class.
“He responded in less than 20 minutes,†said Melissa Chase, associate dean. “He never asked for a shortcut. It was always, ‘What do I need to do?’ He did everything we asked of him. I know this was always a very important goal for him.â€
What they asked of him at the end included a paper on Tibet. “Which I knew nothing about,†he said. Analyzing the New England defense was never like this. But luckily wife Ashley, with two degrees, makes a swell study buddy. He ended up with an A, and possibly more knowledge of Tibet than any quarterback in the NFL.

May 6, 2012 - Graduation Day3142 viewsFrom USA Today:
Most of the assembly didn't know Roethlisberger was coming. When he suddenly appeared in the lineup with his class, the cell phones quickly came out and the texting began.
"I'm going to be sitting there thinking, 'When I was in college, this person (next to him) was probably in middle school,' " Roethlisberger said before the ceremony. "I'm going to be the old man out there, but it's worth it.' "
Worth it, because he promised his parents in 2003, when he left Miami four credits short for the NFL, that one day he would graduate.
