Or, more specifically, he became the hunted. He was deluged by dozens of agents, some more dubious than others, a few offering Roethlisberger "crazy amounts of money," he says, to represent him. Ultimately, he settled upon Leigh Steinberg and his associate, Ryan Tollner, on New Year's Day. Less than a week later Roethlisberger arrived in Newport Beach, Calif., to begin his metamorphosis from beefy, mid-major college stud to prototypical NFL quarterback. He moved into a furnished luxury condo on Jan. 5 and over the next two months did nothing, he says, but work out. "Southern California was a bit of a culture shock," he admits. "It seemed like all the cars were fancy and all the food was healthy. It was big, and things just seemed complicated."

Jane Hoeppner, the wife of Terry Hoeppner, represented Terry at the ceremony and agreed with Roethlisberger.

â€œBen said it best,â€ Hoeppner said. â€œWhen I was given the announcement that Terry was going to be put into the Hall of Fame and Ben was going to be put in at the same time, it was perfect. And it was as it should be.â€

Ben Roethlisberger came home Saturday and brought Terry Hoeppner with him.

Miami University introduced its 2013 Hall of Fame class during the menâ€™s basketball game against Akron at Millett Hall, and Roethlisberger â€” a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers â€” said he was thrilled to enter the Hall with the late Hoeppner, who recruited and coached him at MU.

â€œI know he is here in spirit with us,â€ Roethlisberger said. â€œGoing in with Coach Hep, it couldnâ€™t get any better.â€

Hoeppner, who died of brain cancer in 2007, was represented by his wife Jane on Saturday. She said it was an emotional day that was capped with the induction ceremony.

â€œWhen I was given the announcement that Terry was going to be put into the Hall of Fame and Ben at the same time, it was perfect,â€ Hoeppner said. â€œIt was as it should be.

â€œTerry was an example of someone who was so good at what he did. He was successful as a coach, but he was also successful at how he lived it out and how he chose to go about his business. He wanted to do it the right way.â€
