July 24, 2020 - Big Ben meets police dog his foundation provided379 viewsFrom Debbie Wachter, New Castle News:
If it weren't for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the Shenango Township Police Department wouldn't have a police canine.
Roethlisberger had a chance to meet Kalo, a 5-year-old, all-black German shepherd, face to face Wednesday during a massive food distribution at the Shenango Elementary School parking lot. The star player was there with his wife, Ashley, a Laurel High School graduate, to assist with the Trucks of Hope/Convoy of Hope/NOW venture to give away boxes and bags of food and other supplies to more than 1,500 people in a drive-through distribution.
Kalo, whose handler is Shenango Township patrolman Dan Tressler, was on site to meet Roethlisberger while the distribution was under way.
The police department acquired Kalo from the Shallow Creek Kennels in South Pymatuning Township, Mercer County. He was paid for with funds from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, founded by Roethlisberger, which disperses grants to police and fire department canine units throughout the United States.Jul 24, 2020

March 28, 2019 - Congratulations K9 Taylor!692 viewsThe Denver Sheriff Department’s K-9 Taylor retired Wednesday, March 27th, after nearly seven years.
Taylor joined the department as a partner for deputy Patrick Hynes in November 2012. She was trained in detecting explosive odors.
Taylor and Hynes also assisted other jurisdictions over the years in the Denver metro area, and the K-9 was a representative at several community events.
Taylor is a chocolate Labrador who was born on May 26, 2010. She came to the Sheriff’s Department from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation.
“It’s very awesome the things [Ben] does for law enforcement and still does to this day. Any place they go on an away game, he supplies a dog for that state.†— Deputy Patrick Hynes.
Taylor received certificates from the Denver Sheriff Department and the Front Range Explosives Detection Team, as well as a special pin from Mayor Michael Hancock.
*Enjoy your retirement!

December 1, 2016 - #MyCauseMyCleats1218 viewsWanted to share a photo of my cleats for this weekend’s #MyCauseMyCleats initiative to celebrate and bring awareness to The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation.
These cleats, just like my foundation, honor Make A Wish and police & fire agencies nationwide.
I also wanted to honor fallen K-9 Rocco of the Pittsburgh Police Department with his badge, name, and call sign/unit number on the side of the shoe.
Thank you to Dave at dezcustomz.com & Moe at Kreative Custom Kicks (Sneakercustoms.com) for designing them for me! — BenDec 01, 2016

“I’m proud to call the City of Shawnee my home, and wake up every day with pride that I get to serve the citizens of the greater Kansas City area. I’ve been a K-9 handler for five years. It’s a position that I have always wanted to hold, dating back to the days I served in the United States Army. I’ve seen our unit grow from one to two K-9 teams within the last seven years. We knew we could serve the area better with aApr 09, 2016

April 8, 2016 - The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at work1005 viewsOn October 22nd 2015, Ben announced a grant to the Shawnee Police Department in Kansas.
With this grant, the Shawnee Police Department was able to expand their unit from two to three K-9s which now gives them a dual purpose explosive team.
“The addition of a new canine to our unit will greatly expand the capabilities of these officers and the services they provide our citizens. We sincerely appreciate the generosity of the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation in helping keep Shawnee a safe community. Being a native of Pittsburgh and a huge Steelers fan to this day, makes this grant award that much sweeter. The Shawnee Police Department continues to be grateful for the generosity of Big Ben!!†— Shawnee Chief of Police Rob Moser.

"Mutual cooperation and trust are paramount for a successful conclusion. If you ask another department for help, and you don’t know the officer or K-9 team, you can’t easily trust their tactics and reliability. Regional cooperation is crucial for law enforcement." -- Police Specialist Patrick Murray, Cincinnati Police Department.Dec 12, 2014
