4 – OH YEAH!!

He works. He works hard. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, and if he does make a mistake, he doesn’t make it twice. He’s talented. He has some God-given abilities not many people in this world have. I am really proud of the way he is playing right now.” — Ben, on Chase Claypool.

Big Ben threw three touchdowns…all to Chase Claypool, who also ran in another one for six. The Steelers remain unbeaten as they took down the Philadelphia Eagles 38-29 in the Battle of Pennsylvania today.

The Steelers, who built a 17-point lead in the third quarter but didn’t seal it until Claypool’s fourth touchdown with 2:39 left, is 4-0 for the first time since 1979.

“It’s always important to get out early because you don’t know what the season holds. There is a lot of football ahead of us. We have to continue to play football and be there for each other.” — Ben.

Ben finished 27 of 34 for 239 yards and three touchdowns with a passer rating of 125.4. In four games, he has thrown 10 touchdowns and just one interception.

Chase Claypool became the fourth NFL rookie since the 1970 merger to have two receiving touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in the same game, and is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week!

Wednesday’s Q&A with the media

“It will be cool. It will definitely be different because it’s such a small amount. Just to have some out there will be fun. And a lot of our families back in. My kids were so excited when I told them they could go to the game. To me that makes it worth it.” — Ben, on having fans in the stands this Sunday.

Excerpts by Teresa Varley, Steelers.com:

For Ben Roethlisberger, each week of the 2020 season has been a step in the right direction as he is coming back from elbow surgery that forced him to miss the vast majority of the 2019 season.

He has been his own worst critic through the first three games, but there has definitely been consistent progress as the offense is getting on a roll.

But with an unexpected bye last weekend after positive COVID-19 tests hit the Tennessee Titans organization, including players, forcing their Week 4 game to be pushed back to Week 7, Roethlisberger was asked how to prevent the break from ‘slowing his roll’ at all.

“The league already tried to slow it down, so I guess I am going to just start over from scratch and hope this week I didn’t take too many steps backwards,” said Roethlisberger. “Just try and see how it goes this week, I guess.”

Roethlisberger knows bye weeks are part of the NFL season, but the difference for the Steelers last week is they had already had multiple days of preparation for the Titans before finding out the game would be changed, and that can impact the flow.

“That is tough, especially someone like myself who was just starting to get back in the flow of things,” said Roethlisberger. “It’s not easy, but you’ve got to adjust, you’ve got to adapt and do the best that you can.”

Roethlisberger was asked about multiple media reports on Wednesday morning of additional Titans players testing positive for COVID-19 and that possibly putting their game against the Buffalo Bills this Sunday in jeopardy and if the NFL forces the Titans to forfeit this week as a result, does he think the league will force them to also forfeit the game that was to have been played against the Steelers last week and does he think the Steelers are getting the short end of […]

Teaming up for a great cause

…and a little black & gold sparkle for your Christmas tree!

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation and Wendell August Forge have teamed up to create a new limited edition collection of Pittsburgh Steelers ornaments. The two-time Super Bowl Champion quarterback and the Pennsylvania giftware manufacturer are pre-launching the ornaments this week, with 50 percent of the proceeds to benefit Ben’s foundation.

Proceeds will go toward Ben’s mission to fund police and fire department K-9 units across the United States with a particular emphasis on support for working dogs in the Pittsburgh area. Since 2006, the Foundation has distributed in excess of $2.2 million in grants, over $1 million of which has specifically benefited K-9 programs in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Only 1,000 each of the four limited edition ornaments will be handcrafted at Wendell August Forge’s flagship facility near Grove City.

“When we make Steelers gifts, we always like to say ‘Made in Steelers country, for Steelers country.’ We’re just up the road from Pittsburgh, and our team here bleeds black and gold. We couldn’t be more excited to work with Ben’s foundation and help make a difference in the community. We think these ornaments are going to go quick.” — Christian Werner, Wendell August Forge President.

You can get the ornaments while supplies last at Wendell August’s website, www.wendellaugust.com/bigben7. Each is engraved with Ben’s signature on the back and collector’s number.

For more information on the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, check out his foundation page here on the site or www.givingback.org.
