Ben: ‘It’s really hard not being out there’
“I want to be a part of it. Being hurt is still setting in for me. I’m still feeling like I’m going to come back [this season]. It hurts that I’m not.”
Tim Couch? No.
Johnny Manziel? Heck, no.
Brady Quinn? Bruce Gradkowski? Colt McCoy? No, no and no.
Ben Roethlisberger?
Bingo.
“It’s kind of crazy to think about,” Roethlisberger said, smiling.
Roethlisberger is 11-2-1 at FirstEnergy Stadium. That gives him more wins in Cleveland than any of the 30 quarterbacks the Browns have had since coming back into the NFL in 1999. Derek Anderson is second on the list with 10 wins.
“AFC North football is always fun. Cleveland. A short week. I’m jealous of the guys going over there.”
“I think Mason is doing great. He’s doing some really good things. It doesn’t matter what comes his way. He stays in the pocket when he needs to. He makes plays when he needs to. I think he’s playing awesome. I’m proud of him.”

“Chosen by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 1961 NFL Draft, Hoak had an impressive career, amassing 3,965 rushing yards in 1132 attempts (3.5 avg) with 25 touchdowns. He also caught 146 passes for 1,452 yards (9.9 avg) and 8 touchdowns. He was named to one Pro Bowl and led the team in rushing three times. He retired after the 1970 season as Pittsburgh’s number 2 all-time rusher, and is currently fifth all time in rushing yards out of all Steelers.
Hoak was hired by then-coach Chuck Noll as running backs coach in 1972, and served in that position for 20 seasons. He passed on the head coaching job with the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers when offered it in 1983. Noll retired in 1991, and Hoak was the only one of Noll’s assistants retained under his successor, Bill Cowher.
During his tenure, the Steelers rushed for over 30,000 yards (the only team to do so in this time period) and led the league in rushing yards three times. He was the position coach for Steeler greats Franco Harris and Jerome Bettis.”
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation grants continue….
Today, Ben announced a grant award from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at The Giving Back Fund. The Foundation will be distributing a grant to the Los Angeles Police Department, in honor of the Steelers’ recent game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The LAPD will use the grant funds to add a dog to their current unit of 24 canines.
During the 2019 NFL season, the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation will be distributing grants to K-9 units of police and fire departments in the cities and surrounding communities of each regular season away game for the Steelers. The Foundation will also distribute several grants to the Pittsburgh area. Ben invited police and fire departments across the country to submit proposals detailing their needs.
“K-9 Platoon is an indispensable tool for the Los Angeles Police Department. K-9 Platoon conducts over 300 searches a year for felony suspects actively evading apprehension. K-9 Platoon tactics de-escalate tactical situations, preserve human life, reduce the intensity of tense encounters with violent, armed suspects and mitigate the need for a higher level of force. The City of Los Angeles does not purchase any canines for the unit. All canines are procured through private donations at the cost of approximately $10,000 each.” — Los Angeles Police Sergeant Scott Davis.
This marks the 13th season that the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation has distributed grants to K-9 units. Ben’s mission is to support K-9 units of police and fire departments throughout the United States, with a particular emphasis on support for working dogs in Pittsburgh, PA through his foundation.
More than $145,000 in grants have been distributed to K-9 units around the country during the 2018 NFL season, including $70,000 in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. The Foundation has distributed in excess of $2.1 million since 2007, $1.7 million of which has specifically benefited K-9 programs domestically.
