Congratulations Captains!!
It’s an amazing honor because it’s voted on by teammates. It means a lot. It never gets old. With all of the tradition, the people who have been captains on this team, it means a lot to me. — Ben.
From Teresa Varley’s announcement at Steelers.com:
Steelers’ players voted on Monday for the captains and this year’s team captains are Ben Roethlisberger and Maurkice Pouncey on offense, Cameron Heyward on defense and Roosevelt Nix on special teams.
Roethlisberger has been the team’s offensive captain 11 times in his career, including nine consecutive seasons. Pouncey is an offensive captain for the third time, previously selected with Roethlisberger in 2013 and in 2018.
Heyward, who is in his ninth season, is a defensive captain for the fifth consecutive year. This is the first time that Nix has been named the special teams captain.

Ben gets in the action in the third pre-season game
“It was a good night for us. Good on a lot of fronts. Good to get Ben (Roethlisberger) in a stadium along with some others and see that group work together. Although it wasn’t a complete body of work, we were able to get him some situational ball. Good night in that regard. I like the energy the guys played with. It’s good to watch them function in a foreign environment. Be prepared to deal with some things that come with playing outside of Heinz Field.” — Coach Tomlin.
From Steelers.com:
The Steelers’ defense opened the scoring on the Titans’ second possession.
Defensive end Stephon Tuitt blasted into the Titans’ backfield on second-and-10 from the Tennessee 4-yard line and dropped quarterback Marcus Mariota for a safety.
The subsequent free kick set the Steelers up at their 42 with 9:06 left in the first quarter.
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger took advantage of the good field position and directed a nine-play, 58-yard drive in 4:41 that ended with a 17-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Running backs James Conner and Trey Edmunds each converted third-and-1 rushes into first downs on the march.
Roethlisberger finished 8-for-13 passing for 63 yards and a touchdown in his three series, his first work of the preseason.

Wednesday: Ben’s Q&A with the media
“It’s been fun. This week in practice I felt a little different. Maybe it’s in part being back here, in part knowing I am going to get to play a little bit. I have had a little juice bolt, whatever you want to call it to get you going. This week has been exciting so far knowing you are going to get some reps, get out there with the guys and have some fun. I definitely feel what they are feeling.” — Ben.
From Ben’s interview with the media today via Teresa Varley, Steelers.com:
Ben Roethlisberger will see his first action of the preseason on Sunday night when the Steelers head to Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans.
It’s the same path Roethlisberger followed last year, when he didn’t play in the first two games of the preseason, seeing his first game action in the third preseason game in 2018 as well.
Roethlisberger said it will be a good warmup for the regular season, and he sees some value in getting the time on the field, even though he has been there, done that as he enters his 16th season with the Steelers.
“There is some value because every game in the NFL counts,” said Roethlisberger. “In all of the other major sports you can get away with losing some games, you can kind of warm up to it because they are so long. With our season you can’t really afford to do that. If you get out there and get the actual game speed and stuff, it’s definitely beneficial. I do think it’s a fine line you walk of not doing too much for risk of injuries and everything that comes with that. That’s the fine line a coach walks. Even if you play a little bit. Say you play all four games a little bit and you don’t play sharp in the opener, there is always going to be something. You just have to hope if you don’t play sharp in the opener you play well enough to win.”
While Roethlisberger said he will play on Sunday night, he isn’t sure how long he will be out there. That is a decision that will be made by Coach Mike Tomlin.
“He pretty much tells me what he wants me to do,” said Roethlisberger. […]
