Ben’s ProCamps photo album keeps growing

…thanks to all the great folks who have been sharing with us!

This weekend, new HOPE participant Ja’Quan was a special guest at the Ben Roethlisberger Football ProCamp where he was awarded with the Coach ‘Hep’ Don’t Quit Award! He received this prestigious award for his resiliency, leadership and skill shown on and off of the field. Ja’Quan is the oldest of three siblings who he works hard to be a good role model for. On March 27th, 2019, Ja’Quans family unexpectedly lost their father. This unlikely event caused Ja’Quan to dig deep to persevere as he, overnight, became the man of the house.

Aside from this award, Ja’Quan ran the fastest 400mm dash out of all 300 youth who attended the camp! Now that’s speed! 🏃🏾 🏃🏾🏃🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Thank you Ben Roethlisberger and Tickets for Kids for this amazing opportunity. 🏈 🏆 #GoJaQuanGo Hope For Tomorrow, Inc.

Ben: ‘It’s about giving back’

From Teresa Varley, Steelers.com:

On Father’s Day, Ben Roethlisberger had the opportunity to do what he loves most.

Spend time with his family, including his three kids.

And to make it even better, he got to do it enjoying one of his favorite things…playing football.

Roethlisberger hosted the 11th Annual Ben Roethlisberger Football ProCamp at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Sunday, with 250 kids participating.

“To me this is what it’s about,” said Roethlisberger. “I have an unbelievable platform to share so many things, whether it’s about life, faith, family, football. To be able to come out here and teach football, sportsmanship, fun, that is what it’s all about. I just want people to understand you can have fun and be safe if you are taught the right way. That is what we are doing.”

Roethlisberger’s three kids were all at the camp, and for the first time his oldest son, Benjamin, was able to take part.

“This is the first year he has participated,” said Roethlisberger, who was excited he is now old enough to join the fun. “People say why are you doing this on Father’s Day. That is the reason. We get to have dads out here. We have families out here. It’s a way for families to spend the day together and have fun.

“(Being a dad) keeps you in shape. it keeps you humble. It’s awesome to be able to share things with your kids, especially about faith and family and what is most important. Football is a side note to that. I joke my son doesn’t know about being a quarterback. He can throw the heck out of the ball, but he doesn’t know anything about it. Just being a father is humbling, a huge responsibility. Nobody should take it lightly. I know I don’t, but I want to raise my kids to be the best that they can be.”

While the day was all about football, there was another aspect that was a huge part of it. Each of the kids were asked to bring food donations with them as a part of the Kraft Heinz Company Foundation’s “Fight Hunger with a Pro,” with all of the food benefitting the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Over 4,100 items were donated, enough food to provide 30,000 meals to 5,000 families.

“It is […]

Happy Father’s Day!!

From guitar lessons to “Ben the Bear” adventures….this Dad makes all things FUN! So thankful to have a Dad who loves us as much as you do. BIG kisses for Dad. We love you!!! XOXOXOXOXO — Benjamin, Baylee & Bodie.

Ben is taking them on an adventure. He makes up these pretend stories and they go on adventures around the house where they have to sneak through forests and cross crocodile infested rivers…in this photo, Benjamin is cautiously heading down the stairs to check and see if the coast is clear! It’s a very intense and scary moment in this particular adventure! lol! — Ashley.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. And a very Special HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to our Pops and Pappy! We love you so much!!!! — Benjamin, Baylee & Bodie.

‘Having fun starts with Ben’

From Teresa Varley, Steelers.com:

As they walked off the field on Thursday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, players were all smiles as they were headed into a five-week break until they report to Saint Vincent College for training camp. There were hugs and handshakes, high-fives and true brotherhood. There were laughs and a lot of energy and positivity as players were saying some goodbyes for the short break.

Minicamp was officially in the books and it was time for a little R&R as well as preparation for what is to come in camp.

It was nothing unusual, nothing outrageously different from the past. Yet, there was something different. And it’s because the past month, the OTAs that were voluntary that drew almost perfect attendance and the minicamp that did get a full turnout, were fun for the players.

Yes, fun was the word.

“The biggest thing is the fun we are bringing back to it,” said Vance McDonald. “It’s so hard to describe. It starts with Ben (Roethlisberger) and trickles down. I think our approach this year is we are keeping the level of intensity and drive that it takes to be able to build that foundation, the one it takes to win a championship. But we are having fun too. It’s good. I think guys are playing a lot looser and free.

“You have to play in that fine line of that and being super loose. It’s been fun. Our approach this offseason, we weren’t winning or losing games right now, but we were putting in the work to win and having fun doing it. It’s key for sure.”

The fun has been on the field, on days when they were out there sweating, and on days when veterans got a break and helped the younger guys, coaching them up some and giving them encouragement.

“I think it was important guys wanted to get back to football,” said Roethlisberger, who admitted the time leading into OTAs and minicamp was tough on his family with all of the outside talk and criticism unfairly aimed at him. “We had been away from it for a while. You hear the outside world trying to tear us apart and it brings us back together.

“Once we were back here at the facility, everyone was excited to get going. We got […]
