Wednesday’s Q&A with the media
“I thought the Heinz Field crowd was spectacular last week. As loud as I have heard it in a long time there. So, thank you.” — Ben’s message to the fans that were in attendance last Sunday.
From Teresa Varley, Steelers.com:
Ben Roethlisberger has a Twitter account, but he always makes it clear that he doesn’t run the account (hmmm, wonder who does?). He steers clear of social media, completely and totally.
But he couldn’t help but hear what went on after Sunday’s win over the Bengals, when Martavis Bryant made negative comments on social media regarding his role in the offense, later deleting it, and then posting something positive.
Roethlisberger said the comments surprised him, because that isn’t the Bryant he sees on the field.
“You never hear him complain,” said Roethlisberger, who said he hadn’t talked to Bryant about the comments as of Wednesday morning. “I don’t hear him on the field crying, complaining, throwing his hands up, or not running hard. You see him blocking after other guys catch the ball or during runs. I catch him on the sideline and talk to him about the pictures, like I do with a lot of guys. He is very engaging. That is why all of this was kind of a shock to me.”
Bryant had one reception against the Bengals, a three-yard catch, and was thrown to twice. For the season he has 18 receptions for 234 yards and one touchdown.
“We need to get lots of footballs to him, to everybody,” said Roethlisberger. “We all need to score points because that helps us win game. We have had opportunities. We had a couple of deep balls that were just missed. Whether it’s me overthrowing him. Whether it’s the Chicago game where he slows down a little bit. Whether it’s this last game where he doesn’t see the ball come out of my hands. The plays are there to be had, we just have to make them.
“Maybe it’s on me. I need to maybe give him a better ball to make a play. I will put it on myself first. I am not going to blame him. A couple of those deep balls, if I let him run under them more maybe he will get them.”

The Ben Roethlisberger Show
Recap from 93.7 The Fan:
Ben Roethlisberger joined The Cook and Poni Show for The #1 Cochran Ben Roethlisberger Show.
Following Bryant’s social media post in which he criticized teammate Juju Smith-Schuster and then called out sick from the teams mandatory meeting on Monday, Ben addressed his disgruntled receiver and what he thinks about his latest actions.
“I spoke with Tay [Martavis] yesterday a little bit on the phone. We’re going to talk tomorrow in person at the facility. I’m not going to speak too much on his frame of mind because honestly, these things, like I said last week, they were surprising to me because I don’t see any of the pout, quit, or anything from him on the field.”
As for Bryant telling Josina Anderson of ESPN that if he’s not traded he won’t sign back with the Steelers when his contract expires after next season, Ben said “That’s his prerogative, that’s fine, then give us everything you have then for the next two years, lets get the most out of him, because we can use him and I’m excited for what can come.”
When asked what the right way is to get what you want if you’re Martavis Bryant in this situation, Ben’s advice was “come talk to your quarterback.”
Finally, Ben addressed Bryant ripping a teammate, adding “We all should be a little upset, you don’t talk about a teammate and do things like that.”
Bryant wasn’t the only player drawing headlines after the game against the Bengals last week as Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict didn’t shake any of the Steelers captains hands following the coin toss and then during the game kicked Steelers fullback Roosevelt Nix in the head.
“The pregame thing was a huge shock. Even if you absolutely hate your opponent, you’d think there’s a little bit of respect, you’re in the NFL together, you’re one of the elite few and you go out there and you just stand back, your arms crossed, you’re talking nasty stuff at the coin toss with those kids out there and stuff, it’s…ehh whatever, we won.”
Ben wasn’t without his own drama this week though as cameras caught him and head coach Mike Tomlin in a bit of exchange over the play calling at the end of the half that cost the Steelers a […]
Week 7: Steelers 29, Bengals 14
Teresa Varley @Teresa_Varley
No matter how much you practice with Renegade playing, nothing can prepare you for the @steelers crowd after it’s played.
Recap from Jarrett Bell, USA Today Sports:
Ben Roethlisberger threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns, Le’Veon Bell added 192 total yards and Pittsburgh’s defense dominated the Cincinnati Bengals in the second half of a 29-14 victory on Sunday.
The Steelers (5-2) relied on their stars to take the lead and then on their reinvigorated defense to blunt Cincinnati’s and give themselves a significant cushion over the rest of the underwhelming AFC North.
The Bengals (2-4) came in looking to add some street cred to their resurgence after their 0-3 start, but instead spent the second half reverting to the kind of ineffective offense that got Ken Zampese fired two weeks into the season. The Steelers picked off Andy Dalton twice and sacked him three times over the final two quarters to pull away.
Chris Boswell added five field goals for Pittsburgh, which posted its highest points total and appears to be rounding into form as Halloween nears.
Roethlisberger put together easily his best half of the season. He hit Antonio Brown for a 7-yard touchdown to cap Pittsburgh’s first drive, found a wide-open JuJu Smith-Schuster for a 31-yard score in the second quarter and threw a perfectly placed 23-yard deep out to Brown late in the second quarter to spark a drive that ended with a 24-yard Chris Boswell field goal that put the Steelers up 20-14 at the half.

Dalton and Cincinnati appeared ready to keep pace early. He connected with Brandon LaFell and Tyler Kroft with first-half touchdowns, but when the Steelers turned the pressure up, the Bengals crumbled while losing for the eighth time in their last nine meets with their longtime nemesis.
Cincinnati managed just one first down in the second half, much of which Dalton spent on the run or throwing picks. Joe Haden collected his first interception with Pittsburgh when he made a juggling grab that set up Boswell’s field goal. William Gay added one later in the third quarter on an ugly overthrow by Dalton.
Dalton finished 17 of […]
