It is 102 miles from Heinz Field to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, but this week 522 yards was enough for Ben Roethlisberger to span that distance.

That’s because one of the game-used balls from his record-setting performance Sunday against the Colts has been added to the display collection at the hall.

Against Indianapolis, Roethlisberger became the first player in NFL history to throw for 500-yards twice in a career and the first Steeler to throw for 6 TDs in a single game.

How do you top Sunday’s performance?

Just win. That was last Sunday and it’s in the rearview mirror. It was a fun win, but it’s Baltimore time and that’s what the focus point (was) straight to Monday morning.


Do you have to set aside your accomplishments from Sunday?

It’s not hard to do. I told you Monday morning I got up and I started changing diapers, cleaned up the kitchen (and started) moving on. Life goes on and that’s the realistic part of it. You have to put it behind you just as if you have a bad game. You have to be able to put it behind you and move on. There’s no point in sitting here dwelling on the past when we have a big one this week.


Can the performance last Sunday jumpstart something for this offense?

Well I hope so. There are things that we can take and learn from. We know there’s going to be new challenges this week with a great defense coming in here in Baltimore and the rivalry and primetime. It’s not going to be easy and I‘ve said I don’t care what our stats are as long as at the end of the game we have more points than the other team.


What’s the secret with Terrell Suggs sacking you 16 times?

(Laughing) He’s one of the best that plays the game and that’s rushing the passer and getting after it (and has) a high-motor. (I have) a lot of respect for him and we’ll just try to keep him off of me.


How much does Baltimore’s defense lose with Jimmy Smith being out?

Well they’ve been rotating some guys in. We’ve watched some of that Cincinnati game when he went out and seeing what they’re doing. It’s almost more difficult because we don’t know what they’re going to do. We don’t know if that means more zones, more pressures, more man-to-man (coverage) so we’ll just have to kind of prepare for everything.

Ben has won AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Colts.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance versus the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8, the NFL announced today.

Roethlisberger put together one of the most impressive passing performances in NFL history as he completed 40-of-49 passes for 522 yards with six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He set new single-game franchise records in completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns en route to his 100th career win.

Roethlisberger’s 522 passing yards are tied for the fourth-most in league history, and he became the first player to record two 500-yard passing games as he threw for 503 yards versus the Green Bay Packers in 2009.

This marks the 10th time that Roethlisberger has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Week as he was honored in Week 11 of the 2013 season for his performance against the Detroit Lions.

Heath Miller’s 2014 Bid for Hope event took place last night at Off the Hook in Warrendale, PA. The event, for the Glimmer of Hope Foundation, has raised over $1.6 million in it’s 13 years. Proceeds benefit the organization’s “Under-40 Breast Cancer Study”.

Ben and several of his teammates not the only attended the event to show their support for this worthwhile cause, but sat down to sign autographs for those in attendance!

Miami University, which has been graduating champions since 1809, took a major step forward on Monday (Oct. 27), with the announcement that Ben Roethlisberger, a 2012 graduate and two-time Super Bowl Champion (2005, 2008) with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has made a commitment to Miami Athletics.

He and his wife Ashley have agreed to donate $1 million towards the Indoor Sports Center.

“This gift is a huge thank you to everything, on and off the field, that Miami University provided me,” said Roethlisberger. “Attending Miami was one of the best decisions of my life and I am happy to play a small part in helping to rebuild this football program.”

The Indoor Sports Center, which is expected to be completed in January, will feature a full-length 120-yard playing surface that will be called “Ben Roethlisberger Field.” The Indoor Sports Center will positively impact all 19 of Miami’s sports programs and allow teams to train year-round.

In his time at Miami, Roethlisberger completed 854-of-1,304 pass attempts for 10,829 yards and 84 touchdowns from 2001-03. His junior campaign was one for the ages, throwing for 4,486 yards and 37 touchdowns, leading Miami to 12-consecutive wins, including a Mid-American Conference Championship and GMAC Bowl victory. That season alone, he captured third-team All-America honors and was just the third player in Miami history to garner the Vern Smith Award as the Mid-American Conference Most Valuable Player.

Roethlisberger to this day still ranks first in Miami history in completion percentage (.655) and touchdowns, and is second in pass attempts, completions, yards and total offense (11,075).

That vision, spoken about by Athletics Director David Saler, includes improving facilities across the board at Miami. Earlier this season Millett Hall got a face-lift with the addition of red seats and improved lighting.
