Ben named AFC Offensive Player of the Week
From Teresa Varley, Steelers.com:
“Ben, that’s my guy.”
When Antonio Brown utters those words, which he has done on numerous occasions, he means it. Ben Roethlisberger is definitely his guy, and the guy who makes the Steelers offense tick.
“Ben’s our leader,” said Brown.
And once again, Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a come-from-behind win, defeating the Ravens, 39-38, en route to winning the AFC North title and for Roethlisberger, the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Roethlisberger completed 44 of 66 passes, both career highs and team records, for an incredible 506 yards. Roethlisberger threw for two touchdowns, and no interceptions, against a defense that was No. 1 in takeaways and ranked No. 1 in interceptions in the NFL going into the game.
“Ben was big time tonight,” said Coach Mike Tomlin after the game. “That probably goes without saying.”
Roethlisberger became the first player in NFL history to pass for at least 500 yards in three games, and his 506 passing yards is the 10th 400-yard or more game of his career, the fifth player in NFL history with at least 10 400-yard games.
“Ben’s a Hall of Fame quarterback,” said Brown. “He is so much fun to play with. He made some amazing throws. He makes them every day. He is a general, a warrior, a leader. I am glad I got to play with him for a lot of years.”
Roethlisberger’s 506 yards passing also marks the fourth 450-yard or more game of his career, tying Dan Marino for the most in NFL history.
This is the 15th time that Roethlisberger has won AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The Ben Roethlisberger Show
Recap from Ben’s radio show on Tuesday, courtesy of 93.7 The Fan & CBS Pittsburgh:
On Ryan Shazier –
“We went over yesterday and spent some time with him and everything. It’s always so uplifting to go see him and give him a hug and see that smile.
“I enjoyed sitting in his room last night and talking about the game, getting his perspective on the game and what he saw.”
On sharing his visit with Ryan with his teammates –
“Coach asked me if I’d share with the team what it felt like to me…so I got up in front of the team on Friday morning and spoke about how uplifting it was to see him, to walk into that room, to see the smile on his face, for him to put his arms up and give me a hug and how it really brought me back up.
“I was down last week, I was down last week, I think most of us were…I don’t know the exact number of guys that have gone, but I’m sure most of the team if not all the team has gone and everybody that I’ve talked to has said the exact same thing to me.”
On facing the Patriots this weekend –
“We’re gonna be prepared for the very best New England Patriots that we can face coming in here on Sunday.
On their preparation for what Patriots head coach, Bill Belichick throws at them –
“He is one of the greatest coaches of all-time, I think we can all agree on that in, in terms of scheming, out-coaching, thinking, game planning, whatever it may be. They’re gonna have, whether it’s a new wrinkle, something that we’ve seen maybe in the past but it’s been a long time, whatever it is, there’s gonna be some adjustments that are gonna have to be made before the game, during the game because they are very good at preparation and getting you to do things that aren’t maybe typically you.”
On Antonio Brown for MVP –
“Look at his numbers, I think it would be awesome, especially being my teammate to be the first wide receiver to get it, that would be really stinking cool to know that I helped contribute to it too.”

Week 13: Steelers 39, Ravens 38
The Steelers clinched the AFC North division title after a down-to-the-last-minute-nail-biter win against the Baltimore Ravens on NBC Sunday Night Football, and Ben is now the first player in NFL history to record three games of 500+ passing yards…but there was something, or rather someone more important on Ben’s mind after the game:
“The line played unbelievable, the receivers caught the ball, and Ryan Shazier is with us tonight. We didn’t play without him. He was out here with us.”
“We love you Ryan, we know you’re watching. Buddy, we love you so much!”
