Grab your golf clubs….

And play a round with Big Ben, Brett Keisel and Heath Miller!

From The Golf Wire:

1Nemacolin Woodlands Resort – the acclaimed luxury resort in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania – will host the star-studded Shepherd’s Rock Celebrity Pro-Am on July 11.

Kicking off at 10 a.m., the event is part of Nemacolin’s grand opening celebration for its much-anticipated new Pete Dye and Tim Liddy-designed Shepherd’s Rock golf course.

An exclusive pro-am draw and VIP gala event featuring Huey Lewis and The News occurs July 10 at 6 p.m.

Celebrities scheduled to participate include Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger; San Francisco 49ers placekicker Robbie Gould; PGA TOUR golfers Ben Curtis and Jason Gore; Golf Channel personalities Matt Ginella and Chris DiMarco; and local sports luminaries Brett Keisel, Heath Miller and Phil Bourque.

Packages to play in the pro-am are available for $2,950 (individual) and $10,400 (foursome). The offer includes overnight accommodations, welcome amenity package (valued at over $500), two tickets to the pro-am draw event and VIP gala, exclusive play on Shepherd’s Rock and more.

“This exciting celebrity pro-am will launch the opening of Shepherd’s Rock in grand fashion,” says Mike Jones, director of golf and recreation. “We want participants to enjoy the world-class experience offered here at Nemacolin and be among the first to play the course many feel is destined to become one of the most acclaimed layouts in the U.S.”

Perched high atop the Allegheny Mountains, the 7,151-yard Shepherd’s Rock course will offer extraordinary golf in a spectacular setting. The rolling bucolic terrain is ideal to fully utilize Dye’s brilliant imagination in fashioning a routing sure to draw raves from both media and guests. The dramatic par-5 18th, under the gaze of Nemacolin’s posh Falling Rock boutique hotel, features a green sitting atop the property’s high ground and a single, magnificent oak tree standing sentinel on the right.

Shepherd’s Rock is the only Mid-Atlantic layout and Pete Dye-designed golf course opening in 2017. The course will open to resort guests and members on July 1. Play for general public begins July 12.

And the winner is…

Yup! You guessed it!

That round of golf Ben played this weekend with Golf Channel‘s senior writer Ryan Lavner was part of Reynolds Plantation Member-Guest Golf Tournament.

After the tournament, Mr. Lavner realized what Steeler Nation has been aware of for some time – Big Ben IS a “baller”!

Ron Cook: Roethlisberger’s state of mind is all about Steelers

“I hope the people of Pittsburgh know me well enough to know I love football, I love Pittsburgh and I love the Steelers. My teammates and Steelers fans are going to get 110 percent from me. They don’t need to worry about getting anything less.” — Ben.

From Ron Cook, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

010617_1Ben Roethlisberger said he never looked back after deciding to return to the Steelers for another season, his 14th in the NFL.

But a little positive reinforcement never hurts.

For Roethlisberger, it came last week during the first night of the NFL draft. The Cleveland Browns used the No. 1 overall pick to take Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett, who promptly said he plans on making Roethlisberger his first NFL sack when the teams play Sept. 10 in Cleveland on the opening weekend of the season.

“I was talking to [Maurkice Pouncey] after Garrett called me out. Pounce got a big kick out of it. All of my linemen enjoyed hearing it. They can’t wait to get started. I can’t, either.”

It was a relaxed Roethlisberger who jumped on the telephone this week for a 45-minute chat during which he addressed the Steelers draft, which included quarterback Joshua Dobbs, old teammate Martavis Bryant, new teammate James Conner, the 2017 Steelers and his football future, among other topics.

He was hitting golf balls with his son, Benjamin Jr., 4, on a range not far from his offseason escape on Lake Oconee in Georgia. It turns out Junior might want to be a pro golfer rather than a Hall of Fame quarterback, which is just fine with his old man.

“He already hits the ball straighter than I do,” Roethlisberger said.

Family time has been the best part of Roethlisberger’s busy offseason. He also spoke for two hours about faith, family and, yes, maybe a little Antonio Brown to nearly 10,000 men at a retreat at Liberty College in Virginia.

“I had no idea what I was going to say. It came from the heart.” He hunted for Red Stag elk, Fallow deer and Arapawa ram during a trip to New Zealand with good friend, Hall of Famer Jim Kelly. “I got all three!,” Roethlisberger gushed. And he was inducted into the Hancock County (Ohio) Sports Hall of Fame with his younger sister, Carlee, a basketball and […]

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at work

A special grant was given to the Wheeling, WV Police Department this month!

043017_1The department received a $10,000 check from The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation to help their K-9 program.

“The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation does a lot of good things in the community, and we’re happy to be a part of that, and (we’re) certainly very thankful that they recognized the Wheeling Police Department to make a contribution to our K-9 unit,” Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said.

The Community Impact Coalition worked with Ben’s foundation to obtain the grant.

“It feels great to help them out” said Lori Garett-Bumba from the Communication Impact Coalition. “They have helped us out so much over the past few years. Since 2005, they partnered with us for Project Sticker Shock and prescription drug takebacks and the very first med return box here in the state of West Virginia.”

“We outfitted one of our brand new cruisers that you see over here with that money and there’s a lot involved with a K-9 specific vehicle,” Schwertfeger said.

Schwertfeger says they already have five K-9s, who are such a valuable asset to the officers.

“We have four narcotics dogs and a bomb dog,” Schwertfeger said. “We’re one of the few departments in the area that has an explosives detection dog.

“It’s a great community policing initiative, or tool, and these handlers are awesome. They’re really good working with children, members of the community and they are always there for me.”
