“It is hard to believe that the next game we’ll get to see, it’s going to be a regular season game. September is finally here. This year, our Steelers are expected to achieve great goals, and we have as well achieved the biggest fan picture ever for our city. We are proud of keeping the familiar environment, the friends we’ve made during the last couple years, and above all, we are really excited and looking forward to see the Steelers again. Let the towels wave once again as we enjoy the road to the seventh championship. 🏈

First foundation grant of the 2016 NFL Season goes to…

It’s that time of year again and today, Ben announced the first grant of the 2016 season from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at The Giving Back Fund.

The Foundation will be distributing a grant to the Arlington County, VA Police Department – not too far from where the Steelers will play the Washington Redskins on September 12th.

The Arlington County Police Department will use the grant funds to purchase ballistic vests for their existing seven K-9’s.

“Our K-9s are integral members of the Arlington County Police Department, both in the field and from a community outreach perspective. We are grateful to receive this grant so we can provide our K-9’s with ballistic vests as an added layer of protection to keep them safe.” — Arlington County Police Chief M. Jay Farr.

pledgebig3During the 2016 NFL season, The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation will be distributing grants to K-9 units of police and fire departments in the cities and surrounding communities of each regular season away game for the Steelers. The Foundation will also distribute several grants to the Pittsburgh area. Ben invited police and fire departments across the country to submit proposals detailing their needs.

This marks the 10th season that Ben’s foundation has distributed grants to K-9 units. His mission is to support K-9 units of police and fire departments throughout the United States, with a particular emphasis on support for service dogs in Pittsburgh, PA. Ben and his foundation also support Make-A-Wish.

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation distributed more than $170,000 in grants to K-9 units around the country during the 2015 NFL season, including $93,250 in the Pittsburgh community. The Foundation has distributed in excess of $1.5 million since 2007.

“We’re very fortunate to be in the position that we are able to help these K-9 units. The work that is performed by the dogs and their handlers as well as the bond that is formed is incredible. We’re just thrilled to do our small part.” — Ben.

Big Ben’s Touchdowns for K9’s –

Fans can support future K-9 grants by joining Ben’s crowdfunding campaign on https://pledgeit.org/big-ben. Ben is pledging $1,000 per throwing touchdown this season to his foundation. Supporters can increase the impact by pledging to donate any amount per touchdown!

Our day at the Zoo

Look where Benjamin and I went today – the Pittsburgh Zoo (it was just a day for us big kids, Bodie didn’t go)!

Zoo3

Benjamin loved watching the big polar bear swim, and I got to feed this cute little red panda! I would love to have one as a pet!

Zoo2
Yeah, I wasn’t a real big fan of the Bengals – I mean the Bengal tigers, but I sure liked watching the pretty colored fish! I think fish would make great pets!

7
Me and mommy fed the giraffe…

Elephant
…and this baby elephant even posed for a picture with us! How funny is that? I think a giraffe and an elephant would make great pets too, don’t you?

Zoo1
Goodness knows you can’t leave the zoo without a ride on Big Bird Jetways and a Jungle Express car!!

Hope you enjoyed my photos from our day at the zoo!! Hope everyone in Steeler Nation has a great week! — Baylee

Bradshaw talks Big Ben

From Terry Bradshaw’s interview with Teresa Varley at Steelers.com:

090616As the Steelers are set to embark on the 2016 season, Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw weighed in on quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in this exclusive interview. Bradshaw ranked Roethlisberger at the top of all quarterbacks in the league, and explains why the Steelers’ signal caller is such a special player.

“I would rate Ben right on top of the list, ahead of (Tom) Brady for sure and anybody else, (Philip) Rivers, Eli (Manning). He is big, strong, and poised,” said Bradshaw.

“I would start with the most important thing a quarterback has to be, poised. If you panic in that pocket you are no good. I don’t care what else is there, you have to be poised.

“Ben has amazing talent, strong arm, strong guy, big in big games, clutch throws, makes somethings happen. I have always admired him. I have the greatest respect for the job he has done and how he handles himself as a professional.

“The offense they are running is just amazing. The job he does and how he stands in there is impressive. It’s been years of solid, exceptional quarterback play. He could have been the MVP in the league last year if he would have stayed healthy. I am not saying this because I am a Steeler and trying to suck up to anybody. I am just telling you he is special, different.

“I’ll take Roethlisberger over any of those guys.”
