Autographs for a very good cause!
Heath Miller’s 2014 Bid for Hope event took place last night at Off the Hook in Warrendale, PA. The event, for the Glimmer of Hope Foundation, has raised over $1.6 million in it’s 13 years. Proceeds benefit the organization’s “Under-40 Breast Cancer Study”.
Ben and several of his teammates not the only attended the event to show their support for this worthwhile cause, but sat down to sign autographs for those in attendance!
Thumbs up! Teresa Varley snapped this photo at the autograph table of Big Ben, Bruce Gradkowski, and Lance Moore – obviously enjoying themselves!

“Roethlisberger Gives Back In A Big Way”
“I want to thank Ben and Ashley for their support of Miami Athletics. This gift continues our vision to make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes and that includes winning MAC Championships. I am thankful that both Ben and Ashley share in that same vision.” — Miami Athletics Director David Sayler.
From the Miami Redhawks website today:
Miami University, which has been graduating champions since 1809, took a major step forward on Monday (Oct. 27), with the announcement that Ben Roethlisberger, a 2012 graduate and two-time Super Bowl Champion (2005, 2008) with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has made a commitment to Miami Athletics.
He and his wife Ashley have agreed to donate $1 million towards the Indoor Sports Center.
“This gift is a huge thank you to everything, on and off the field, that Miami University provided me,” said Roethlisberger. “Attending Miami was one of the best decisions of my life and I am happy to play a small part in helping to rebuild this football program.”
The Indoor Sports Center, which is expected to be completed in January, will feature a full-length 120-yard playing surface that will be called “Ben Roethlisberger Field.” The Indoor Sports Center will positively impact all 19 of Miami’s sports programs and allow teams to train year-round.
In his time at Miami, Roethlisberger completed 854-of-1,304 pass attempts for 10,829 yards and 84 touchdowns from 2001-03. His junior campaign was one for the ages, throwing for 4,486 yards and 37 touchdowns, leading Miami to 12-consecutive wins, including a Mid-American Conference Championship and GMAC Bowl victory. That season alone, he captured third-team All-America honors and was just the third player in Miami history to garner the Vern Smith Award as the Mid-American Conference Most Valuable Player.
Roethlisberger to this day still ranks first in Miami history in completion percentage (.655) and touchdowns, and is second in pass attempts, completions, yards and total offense (11,075).
That vision, spoken about by Athletics Director David Saler, includes improving facilities across the board at Miami. Earlier this season Millett Hall got a face-lift with the addition of red seats and improved lighting. The new weight and conditioning room inside Goggin Ice Center was completed prior to the start of the hockey season. The Legacy Project at Hayden Park is currently underway. Improvements there include […]
Adams on Ben: ‘The guy was in a zone’
From Teresa Varley, Steelers.com today:
Steelers offensive linemen loved what they saw from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Sunday.
The smile on Mike Adams face said it all about what it was like for the offensive line during Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Not only was quarterback Ben Roethlisberger not sacked, but he became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 500 yards in a game twice in a career.
When the announcement came across the Heinz Field PA system of that accomplishment during the game, you could see from the offensive line’s reaction that they were pumped.
“We were hype,” said Adams, still fired up about it the day after. “That says a lot about the line that he had time to throw almost 50 passes. I know he felt good back there. We felt good. It was a fun game, one for the ages.”
Roethlisberger, who also recorded his 100th regular season win in the 51-34 victory, completed 40 passes for 522 yards and six touchdowns with a quarterback rating of 150.6.
“The guy was in a zone,” said Adams. “He went out there and had a great game. It was something that was awesome to be a part of. To be the only guy to have two 500 yard games, and to be in there for one of them is something you will never forget.”
Center Maurkice Pouncey joked about it being an okay kind of performance for Roethlisberger, then quickly went on and on about how special a player he is.
“He is awesome. He is a Hall of Fame quarterback,” said Pouncey. “He does a great job of leading this team. As you can tell he can make big time plays and have big time games as well. He is awesome. We love seeing big time plays like that. When he has receivers that make the big time catches and plays like that, it all looks great.
“It’s exciting, we got to share that memory with him. It will always be in our mind that we helped him achieve that. For the offensive line not to have any sacks, we just want to keep building on that and see how things go next week.”

“This is a good team win for us….It was a nice night of being home!” — Ben, post-game.
Oh yeah, and Ben had a pretty good game too!

Keisel joked after the game that he wants Ben’s game jersey after such a huge performance. Keisel very happy for his teammate and friend.
From Jim Corbett, USA Today:
Ben Roethlisberger on 500-yard game: ‘Why does it have to stop here?’
Ben Roethlisberger held his young son, Ben Jr. as he beamed at his locker, giving Little Ben and his teammates a record-setting performance to look up to when his team needed him most.
Roethlisberger said this week he and his up-and-down Steelers were close to playing their most complete game.
Boy, was he ever right. No better time than Sunday for Roethlisberger to remind everyone he’s still an elite, two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback by setting franchise records for passing yards (522), touchdown passes (six) and completions (40).
His yardage total that ignited Sunday’s 51-34 victory against the Indianapolis Colts was tied for the fourth-highest in league history. It was the second time Roethlisberger eclipsed 500 passing yards for the 5-3 Steelers — the first player in NFL history with two such games — who have won two straight games for the first time.
“We felt they couldn’t stop us because we were just clicking,” Roethlisberger said. “There has been a lot of great quarterbacks that have played this game. And it’s just an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as a lot of those guys.
“I’m glad we finally put two wins together. Because 5-3 is a lot better than 4-4.”

And from Bob Labriola, Steelers.com:
Ben Roethlisberger became the first QB in history to pass for 500 yards in a game twice in a career.
In short, Ben Roethlisberger was everything his team needed him to be, and because the game was against a potent offensive opponent, he was everything his team needed him to be for all 60 minutes.
Roethlisberger completed 40-of-49 for 522 yards, with six touchdowns and no interceptions to finish with a rating of 150.6. He became the first player in NFL history to […]
