It’s a sad reality, but it is reality. Almost everyone knows somebody who has been impacted by breast cancer, whether it’s a family member, friend, or co-worker.

Along with that, though, more people are doing their part to bring awareness to the disease, and to help in the effort to find a cure.

That has been the case for the Steelers over the last month, and it continued on Monday night when Heath and Katie Miller and Alan and Julie Faneca hosted Bid for Hope XIV, benefitting Glimmer of Hope Foundation and supporting breast cancer research.

“This is a disease that has affected way too many people,” said Miller. “The NFL has embraced it, the Steelers have embraced it, and we are trying to make sure everyone is aware of the importance to see the doctors, get the mammograms.

“The money raised at this event goes to research so a difference can be made. If we can do what we can to help with the research we can work towards a cure and help as many people as we can.”

This is the 14th year for Bid for Hope, an event that has raised more than $1 million, with much of that benefitting the organizations under-40 breast cancer study, 3D mammography and the integrated oncology program at Magee Womens Hospital of UPMC, which treats mind, body and soul, something that helps patients as they go through treatment.

“The women who have been through this care program, their care has been better, their re-admittance to the hospital has been low,” said Diana Napper, founder and president of Glimmer of Hope. “We know the program is great. We also have nurse navigator, genetic counseling, and the clinic which there are only three in the country.

Hello and Happy Halloween to all the fans. I just wanted take a minute to say thanks for participating in Jr’s costume poll. I know it was something new and I hope you all liked it.

I figured I would write and tell everyone how it went and what happened tonight –

There were so many votes for both outfits we thought we would do them both!


Ashley wanted to do a family theme picture so we all got dressed up in our Frozen costumes!

But as soon as we were done with that, Benjamin wanted to get into his Spiderman outfit…


This was our first ever trick or treat and they loved it. JR wanted to just go to every house and talk to everyone, and Baylee tried to walk into everyone’s house like she owned it, it was so funny!!


All in all, it was a great night! The kids had fun and even Hercules got into a final picture of the night!

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he’s officially ready to make his comeback on Sunday against Cincinnati.

“Yeah, I think so,” Roethlisberger confirmed after practice today.

Roethlisberger has been out since suffering a sprained MCL/bone bruise in his left knee on Sept. 27 at St. Louis.

He’s convinced he’s ready to return because of “the way it felt all week, not really having any setbacks, no pain.

“Felt pretty good,” Roethlisberger continued. “Obviously, you can’t simulate a pass rush, getting hit, sacked, things like that. But I have faith in my line that they’ll keep me clean, anyway.”

Roethlisberger’s fourth start this season and the 162nd regular-season start of his 12-year career promises to be an emotional one.

“Nervous,” Roethlisberger said, “got a lot of expectations.

“I know there’s a lot of expectation from them. I want to be great for them. I want to help us win the game, and (Cincinnati) is a great football team. It’s not going to be easy, so a little extra nerves.”

Roethlisberger will also have to overcome not having played in over a month.

“It’s no different to me than trying to play the first game of the year after playing preseason,” he said. “You know it’s different, you have to kind of feel it out and get going. I don’t know too many times first games of the year you’re just clickin’ and hittin’ it and all that stuff.

“There are a lot of little things like that involved. There will be rust. There will be nerves. It’s just about trusting in the guys around me that they’ll play for me if I’m not playing great.”
