Big Ben at Wednesday’s practice

From Teresa Varley at Steelers.com:

102115Ben Roethlisberger isn’t worried about the pain, he has played with pain before. The key factor for him, and what could be a decision-maker as to whether or not he plays this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, is the stability of his knee.

“I can deal with pain,” said Roethlisberger. “Adrenaline helps with that a lot. The stability, we have a great training staff and doctors. We have about six different knee braces to try. John Norwig is going to tape it too. Today is going to be a trial and error type of thing. I have no idea what it is like to run, move, and get hit in the leg. I am not really sure yet.

“The pain will be there for a while. I can deal with pain.”

Roethlisberger suffered a sprained MCL against the St. Louis Rams on Sept. 27 and has missed the last three games. He said when the injury first happened, before he knew the severity of it, getting back this quick was hard to imagine.

“I knew the pain that I felt and I saw the look in the doctor’s eyes, so it was scary,” said Roethlisberger. “Once we got back, got the results the MRIs and talking to doc, it was encouraging.”

So encouraging that he worked in a limited role in practice last week, but he wants to take it to the next level this week. He said he isn’t certain how many reps he will get in practice, or what the final decision will be as to him playing this week as only time will tell if he will return to game action or not.

“That is not my call,” said Roethlisberger. “That is coach’s call. I am going to go out and practice and give it everything I have and let him make the decision.

“I am excited to get out there and do a little bit more than I have been doing last week.”

On what’s been the most physically challenging part of his rehab:

“Nothing too much. We haven’t done things that we know will hurt it. There is no point in testing those things. Right now it’s just about getting it strong.”

“Martavis Bryant: recalls tears, talk with Roethlisberger”

From Jacob Klinger at Penn Live today:

102015As Martavis Bryant flipped into the South end zone of Heinz Field on Sunday afternoon, worries about the Pittsburgh Steeler’s future and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ present fell away.

After serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, not being activated for his first possible game back Bryant returned with a team-leading two touchdown catches and 168 yards from six receptions in the Steelers’ 25-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Mere weeks ago he had been crying, talking to Ben Roethlisberger after the quarterback heard Bryant was going to Houston for rehab and training. Roethlisberger was the Steelers’ healthy, starting quarterback then and Bryant could do nothing to help his team on the field.

“He let me know that I was down there for a reason, saying I had to go down there and make sure I take care of myself and make sure I get myself back together as a man,” Bryant said.

Roethlisberger’s celebrations were restricted to the sideline on Sunday. There, he continues to recover from a sprained MCL and bone bruise.

Bryant and Roethlisberger shared a similar emotional, though sadder moment when Roethlisberger talked to the second-year receiver after learning he was going to rehab.

Said Bryant: “I started crying and everything because it meant a lot for me for him to come out and show me that he cares.”

Hey everybody!

Can I ask you to help me with my Halloween costume this year? — Benjamin, Jr.

This is one of those tough decisions a guy has to make, and I need Steeler Nation’s opinion because I just can’t make up my mind:

Spiderman
So, should I go trick or treating as my favorite comic book super hero, Spiderman?

Frozen
Or, should I go as Olaf the Snowman from one of my favorite movies, “Frozen”?

Can you email Miss Erin at bigben7website@gmail.com and let her know which one you’d choose? (She’s a lot better at counting that high).

She’ll keep this on the home page and then tell me which costume won (you’ve got ’til next week to let her know) and I’ll have my dad take a photo of me in the winner on Halloween night so you guys can see it!!

(I’m just hoping my mom doesn’t see this post AND ME riding a bike in the house or both me and dad are gonna be in big trouble! Keep that part between us, okay?)

Week 6: Steelers 25, Cardinals 13

Congratulations to Landry Jones, Steelers Digest Player of the Week!

“Landry’s been watching Ben for a long time. He knows the offense like the back of his hand…it was really like Ben’s little brother out there. It kind of brought us back like, ‘Dang, Landry has really got this.'” — Le’Veon Bell, post-game.

Landry Jones re-entered the game in the third quarter, following a brief stint in the second quarter, and finished the game completing 8-of-12 passes for 168 yards with two touchdowns for a passer rating of 149.3 in his NFL debut.

And how about Ben in practice this week?

“We’re going to tape it and brace it and I’m going to see what I can do. My plan is to go out Wednesday and practice. We’ll see what happens. I know I’ve got to be smart about it. I’ve got to be able to defend myself. We’re just going to take it day by day.”

Combining football & fashion

…for a great cause!

“While the event, which was chaired by Art and Greta Rooney and Mike and Kiya Tomlin, was about fun and fashion, it had a much deeper meaning. All proceeds benefited the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program and the Cancer Caring Center, two charities that have a long relationship with the Steelers.” — Teresa Varley, from her article on Steelers.com this morning.
