Baby Ben checkin’ in with Steeler Nation
No, no! Not THAT Baby Ben, THIS Baby Ben!! (but we’re pretty sure THAT Baby Ben won’t mind sharing a post on his daddy’s website for THIS one!)
“Hey Steelers fans – does our new little addition remind you of anyone? Say hello to Baby Ben! We know which team he’ll be rooting for on Sundays.” — Vale Wood Farms, in Loretta PA this morning.
Carissa Itle-Westrick, the director of business development for the family-owned food-and-grocery farm, is hoping his daddy won’t mind either.
“Baby Ben is awfully cute,” said Carissa. “Hopefully Big Ben won’t mind sharing his namesake.”
Vale Wood Farms plans to show off their little calf next month when Autumn is in full swing and Halloween is just around the corner for their Pumpkin Patch event.
“Baby Ben will be featured at our Pumpkin Patch, October 1-19, so folks can come out to see our littlest #7”, said Carissa.
If you’d like to know more about the Farm, and their upcoming events, just go to their Facebook page and they’ll be happy to answer all of your questions!
*And don’t forget to say hello to Baby Ben while you’re there (who is probably gonna milk this new-found fame for all it’s worth!).

Re: The return of James Harrison:
I am excited. He’s a guy that I’ve been around for a long time. A fun guy to be around and a great football player. I think he’ll really help us out from a leadership perspective on the field, off the field. (He has) an intensity on the field as we all know about. I know how hard he works so I firmly believe he’s still got stuff in the tank.
Does he share meanness with his teammates?
Yeah, part of the love of James is that the guys that have been around long enough know who he really is and know that he’s a fun, funny, good-hearted person. But yet, when he flips on that switch he becomes one of the nastiest people in the NFL and he’s fun to have on your side.
Does that mentality create a presence that rubs off on others?
Yeah that’s what I was saying that it’s good to have him out here. I said on my show that we have that in Joey (Porter) but Joey is a coach. Now we have it in James who is on the field (and) can bring a level of toughness to a young defense. I’m excited to see what he can do.
Re: Already having chemistry with Antonio Brown and Heath Miller and how the chemistry with Markus Wheaton and Justin Brown is developing?
What it comes down to is it comes down to trust. We have all kind of trust in A.B. and Heath like you said and that comes from working with them for years. That’s starting to really show with Markus and Justin and hoping to really get some of that with Lance (Moore). It comes down to when you can trust a guy and they can trust you, they’re going to be in the spot that they’re supposed to be in and it makes your job a lot easier.
Was the performance of the offensive line due to execution or being more physical?
Probably both. I thought that they played great. I think they rose to the challenge (and) to a tough task. They took a lot of pride and a lot of hurt to the Baltimore game […]
Now THIS is a sweet deal!
Especially with Halloween and the Holidays right around the corner!
“We’re so grateful for Sarris Candies’ generous support. We’re excited to involve a local favorite like Sarris Candies in helping to support our police and fire departments!” — Ben
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation and Sarris Candies have teamed up to raise money for K-9 units across the country.
Each NFL season, The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation distributes grants to police and fire department K-9 units in the city, and surrounding community, of each regular season away game for the Steelers. The foundation also distributes several grants each year to K-9 units in the Pittsburgh area.
K-9 units are often woefully underfunded and depend on public donations to continue their important work protecting the community and their human partners.
To help involve the community in supporting this important cause, Sarris Candies and The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation have designed a cause-marketing program that allows chocolate lovers to purchase their favorite Sarris’ candies guilt-free:
You can use a special group code of 77-7777 on Sarris Candies’ website, (www.Sarriscandiesfundraising.com) to purchase any of Sarris’ expansive candy fundraising catalog products, like the Pittsburgh Black and Gold Assortment (photo above). Sarris will then donate 25% of the purchase price to Ben’s foundation.
Bill Sarris, President of Sarris Candies, observed, “Giving back to the community in which we live has long been a core belief here at Sarris Candies and we’re excited to have the opportunity to have a little influence and encourage people to support and donate to such a worthy cause in our community.”
The Foundation distributed $157,600 in grants to K-9 units around the country during the 2013 NFL season and has distributed in excess of $1.2 million since 2007.
The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation is a component fund of The Giving Back Fund.

The Ben Roethlisberger Show
Ben joined The Cook and Poni Show on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan for the #1 Cochran Ben Roethlisberger Show which airs every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. during the Steelers season:
He told the guys how everything feels better this week after a very impressive performance this past Sunday night in a 37-19 win over the Carolina Panthers to improve to (2-1) on the season.
“The film yesterday, the meetings yesterday, everything is a little better after a win like that.”
Ben said he talked to the team before the Baltimore Ravens game last Thursday talking about how the worlds eyes would all be on that game and how they had a chance to put on a show before the national audience but that resulted in an embarrassing loss but he told the team they had a chance to erase that this past week again on the national stage.
“I told them that we have an opportunity to play Sunday night with everyone watching to redeem ourselves. I thought we did a good job of going out and redeeming ourselves on national TV.”
They did for sure and it was mostly done with an impressive ground attack that saw both running backs Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount rush for over 100 yards.
The biggest was an 81-yard-run from Bell and a 50 yd run from Blount both setting up short touchdowns.
Ben said they saw on film that the Panthers would take away the deep throws so they were going to have to run the ball and hit them with short throws.
“We knew going in that is what we were going to get and we had to take advantage of that. We ran the ball better than we had in probably 20-some years.”
Bell finished the game with 147 yards on 21 carries while Blount added 118 yards on just 10 carries.
“You got to see exactly, I think, what the off season hope was with these two guys. These two are the two headed monster and the third guy hopefully getting back Dri Archer this week will even add another and different element to the run game.”
He also talked about how it was a great win but it came at a huge cost with the […]

Ben: “This is a big win for us”
From Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
It was a game the Steelers celebrated the return of some old, old friends.
Their eight-quarter drought of touchdowns ended in a rainstorm of four in the second half. They forced their first two turnovers this season. And they produced two 100-yard rushers in one game for the first time in 28 years.
It all added up to a runaway 37-19 victory against the favored Carolina Panthers Sunday night at Bank of America Stadium that left them with a 2-1 record.
“This is a big win for us,” said quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who threw two 7-yard touchdown passes to Antonio Brown, was sacked just once and ran the no-huddle offense as well as they draw it up, mixing the run and the pass. He completed 22 of 30 passes for 196 yards with no interceptions and was sacked just once.
“This is a good Steelers football game — physical, offense, defense and special teams.”
It was a costly victory, though, as they lost three defensive starters — Ike Taylor to a broken right forearm and linebackers Jarvis Jones (right wrist) and Ryan Shazier (right knee). Coach Mike Tomlin referred to the injuries as “significant.”
Le’Veon Bell rushed for 147 yards and LeGarrette Blount added 118 and a touchdown as the Steelers rampaged over Carolina’s defense for 264 yards rushing and 454 total.
Bell ripped off an 81-yard run and said the “hole was probably the biggest hole I had in my whole career.”
“That’s awesome,” Roethlisberger said of the twin 100-yard rushers, not seen in black and gold since 1986 when Walter Abercrombie and Earnest Jackson did it. “I’m sure Steelers fans back home are going crazy.”
Roethlisberger said they knew Carolina would try to take away the deep pass and praised an offensive line that blew the Panthers off the ball and protected him when he dropped back to pass.
“It shows what we can do … We knew running the ball was going to be critical,” Roethlisberger said.
