And speaking of Father’s Day…
“Ex-QBs assure Big Ben that fatherhood is a life-changer”
From J. Brady McCollough at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this morning:
For Brad Johnson, the anticipation reminded him of game day. But when it was over, and he and his wife were driving home from the hospital with little Max Johnson in tow, there really wasn’t an apt comparison.
“It was careful driving,” Johnson said. “You talk about having your hands on 10 and 2 on the steering wheel. That’s God’s gift to my wife and I. You understood there’s no love that can get between you.”
Roethlisberger’s quarterback brethren will be rooting him forward. They’ve been through this, becoming fathers during their careers, and they send a clear message: It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.
“This is your legacy,” said former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski. “What you’re going to leave behind is going to be these kids.”

Wednesday: News, Notes & Quotes
Ben spoke to the media this afternoon after the second day of Mini Camp:
On whether anyone has ever told him to “just go down or just take a hit or run out of bounds” –
“Yeah, all the time. My mom, my wife, my grandma…(laughs)”
On whether taking fewer chances would be part of changing his game –
“I’m not going to change my game. Coach can do what he wants to add protection and do things like that, but I’m going to play the game the way I know how. It’s worked okay for me so far.”
On whether there is anything he can do this year to stay healthier –
“I don’t think there’s this big revelation like I need to do this, or do that. It’s just don’t take hits, but I don’t know how not to do that.”
On the comments made by his teammates about his “transformation” –
“To hear that and hear that from those guys is an honor. I mean, everyday I try to be the best teammate, and now the best husband and soon-to-be father that I can be because that’s the way it should be.”
Ben also talked about his fans, the offense, Mike Wallace and more. You can watch/listen here.
Also Today:
“A lot of quarterbacks don’t have that ‘it’ factor. You’ll find a great quarterback who’s accurate, who can throw the ball, but you look for a guy who has ‘it’ and he has it! Basically, you can relate it to like [Michael] Jordan. In the last minute of the game, you want the ball in his hands. You want the ball in the ‘it’ guy’s hands.” — Browns WR Joshua Cribbs, on Ben’s play.
Ben was ranked as the 30th player in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2012 list which was revealed in tonight’s episode. NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal thinks Ben remains underrated:
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is a two-time Super Bowl champion. Practically every game he plays is on national television. And yet he’s still underrated.
Roethlisberger came in at No. 30 on the “Top 100: Players of 2012” rankings, which is up 11 spots from 2011. He’s the No. 4 ranked quarterback on the list, which is seemingly plenty of respect.
And yet he was behind running backs […]
“Big Dad”
“Family is super important to me. We’re really excited. We can’t wait for that day to come.” — Ben, from the interview below.
From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette‘s Gary Dulac today:
Ben Roethlisberger said he can’t wait to be a father, and he is hoping to be just like the one who raised him.
Roethlisberger and his wife, Ashley, are expecting their first child, a boy, though the two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback did not divulge the due date.
“My dad is my role model, always has been,” he said, referring to his father, Ken. “I always wanted to be man-father-son, everything that he is.”
You can read the rest here.
And more from his interview at WTAE:
Roethlisberger said he hopes to celebrate another Super Bowl victory with his growing family.
“If you talk to any player, the ultimate goal is try to have your son or daughter or both at the Super Bowl, so that’s going to be my goal now to get a Super Bowl because I don’t think there’s anything better than having your family on the field with you when you’re holding that trophy and the confetti’s falling,” he said.
