Highlights from Ben’s final show of the season on 93.7 The Fan:

Ben on the “AB story” –

“He is such an incredible talent and I’ve been blessed to have him as my teammate and truly a good friend, one of my better friends on the team….That’s the kind of baffling thing to me is people are making a big deal about a walk-through on Wednesday, that there was a blow up, a fight between he and I, I don’t know anything about that…If there was a blowup or something I should as heck didn’t see it. This big deal was made about that, and I’m not really sure where that comes from. I talked to AB on Thursday morning – because after the walk through AB left on Wednesday. And on Thursday morning I talked to AB and everything was great and fine and then this story just keeps growing. So like I said, I consider him to be one of my closest friends on the team, so I’m not really sure where some of this blowup is coming from.”

When asked about “other teammates” complaining about the situation to the media –

“I think we’re frustrated because we want AB to play because he makes us all better. He had an amazing season this year, and like I said, he makes me who I am, so it makes all of us better. So it’s really, I think communication is the biggest thing for a lot of us.”

Asked if it will be “interesting” moving forward with the AB story –

“It is. And I’m obviously not the, I’m not the coach, or the owner. So I’m not sure what’s going to happen. Like I said, I love Antonio and I wish him nothing but the best and I hope he’s back here with me. Because he makes me better.”

Ben on whether it bothered him that he was not voted as team MVP –

“No, not at all. I voted for Pouncey. But I think JuJu is very deserving. I think there were a handful of guys that were deserving of the award – T.J. Watt, JuJu, AB…I always think the line is the most valuable group, but maybe I’m biased (laughs). I think James Connor did some great things. To me being a captain is a higher honor. And I think to say someone else should of gotten it takes away fom JuJu – I think JuJu earned it, he did a lot of great things for us!”

On Mike Munchak interviewing for head coaching positions –

“I pray and hope we can keep him. I try and tease Munch all the time about staying and this, that and the other. I just hope like last year, like I said, that we can keep him. But you got to understand that he’s got to do what’s best for him and his family.”

On how he feels about the team’s future –

“The linemen keep me healthy, I feel like my best football is ahead of me. We have a good group of guys, I love what the young guys did this season. I went into the wide receivers’ room yesterday and said something to each guy, to tell them how proud I was of them. I went to every room.”

On leading the lead in passing yards –

“The one and only thing that matters to me is winning. We won a passing title, not me, we won the passing title. That’s everybody – that’s wide receivers, that’s tight ends, that’s running backs, that’s the line, that’s everybody – that’s an awesome accomplishment for us as as a group, and that’s Coach Randy.”

On Ben’s future with the team –

“If they want to have me, I’d love to be here.”
