12 months a year of Pittsburgh?

Absolutely!! What a great holiday gift idea…and for a good cause!

After BIG demand from the Steelers faithful, our Pittsburgh cityscape photographer and friend, Dave Dicello has made his beautiful photography into a 2015 calendar.

DaveDicello_Skyline

The calendars are $25 each, and Dave is donating $1 from every calendar sale to WTAE’s Project Bundle Up.

You can see each image in this beautiful calendar as well as order yours right here.

“Pittsburgh. The Steel City. The City of Champions. The City of Bridges. It has many names, but I know it by one: home. Pittsburgh is the perfect combination of “big” city living and a small town feel. We have history in our steel mills, our sports teams and our culture that make us unique in terms of great American cities. The other thing that is great about the ‘Burgh from a photography standpoint is that no matter how you look at it, you are sure to have an incredible view. From high up on Mt. Washington or the West End Overlook, or down low on the North Shore or Point State Park, the views of my hometown rival some of the best in the world.

“But probably my favorite thing about Pittsburgh is the pride that the people who live there have. We are proud to say where we are from, proud to be from a city that was the keystone of industry in the United States for so many years. The people who leave here always want to come back, because there really isn’t any place quite like Pittsburgh anywhere else.” – Dave

Ben’s Foundation: Two K-9 Grants in Cincinnati Bengals’ Territory

Today, Ben announced two grants from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at The Giving Back Fund.

The Foundation will be distributing grants to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky and the Miami University Police Department outside of Cincinnati where the Steelers will play the Bengals on Sunday, December 7th.

“Thank you Ben for giving back to your alma mater, Miami University, and supporting our mission of keeping our campus and surrounding communities safe.” — K-9 Patrolman Keith Hibbard, Miami University Police Department.

1stDayOnTheJob_wpThe Mercer County Sheriff’s Office will use the funds to purchase heat alarms for two K-9 vehicles while Miami University plans to apply the grant toward training equipment.

More from K-9 Patrolman Keith Hibbard, “The Miami University Police Department K-9 unit is honored to have been selected by the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation as a 2014 grant recipient. The continued success of our K-9 unit and other regional K-9 teams that train with our K-9 unit will be strongly supported by this generous gift. This training equipment will enable regional K-9 teams training at venues on our campus to maintain a high level of readiness and preparedness to respond when called upon.”

These are the tenth and eleventh grants awarded of the 2014-15 season thus far. This marks the eighth season that the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation has distributed grants to K-9 units.

And don’t forget:

You can support the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation‘s efforts for future K-9 grants by purchasing candy on Sarris Candies’ website, (www.SarrisCandiesFundraising.com), using a special purchase code of 77-7777. Sarris will donate 25% of the purchase price to the Ben’s foundation.

Ben: “Good enough to move on and get ready for Cincinnati”

Talking to the media today about this Sunday’s game –

From Steelers.com:

120314Is there anything that you learn from watching that game (in the film room)?

Oh yeah always. That’s what we spend Monday doing is learning about it. That’s what Monday is for is doing that and then moving on. The second half of that day we spent some time up there at the quarterbacks (film room) and today is strictly Cincinnati.

How did you wrist recover?

Fine. Got the feeling back and am ready to rock and roll today.

Re: Him hitting David DeCastro’s helmet earlier in the game:

Like I said, throughout games it’s not a rarity for quarterbacks to hit hands, helmets, shoulder pads (or) whatever it was. I just know that the play to Antonio (Brown) was the play that actually did the stinging.

Did your hand swell up?

A little bit (but) nothing too crazy. Like I said, it was just loss of feeling in the two fingers and nothing that you can’t play through.

Is there anything different that Cincinnati is doing this year that you notice on film?

(They have a) really good defense. Their secondary is playing as good as any secondary in the NFL right now. (There are) a lot of veterans out there. They have two young drafted guys that don’t even get to play because their veteran guys are playing so well. (They have) a lot of different looks, double-barrel stuff (and) things that we’ve seen in the past. But we’ll always anticipate something new.

Are they still getting a lot of pressure and is that leading to some of the things that they’re doing?

Yeah a lot of pressure. A lot of double-barrel stuff, two linebackers up on the center and bringing some free safety stuff (and) some strong safety blitzes. It forces you as an offense to change protections, to move guys around and just make sure everybody is on the same page for it.

Re: He and the team always playing better with their backs against the wall as underdogs and does that pump you up more:

I think if you need something like that to pump you up knowing that you have four games left in your season and that you control destiny and it’s a division opponent something is wrong with you. I’ve been here a long time […]

93.7 The Fan: The Ben Roethlisberger Show

If you missed his Tuesday time slot during the Cook and Poni Show, here are some excerpts from his show:

1~157_2Ben on his friend Brett Keisel’ injury –

It was a tough one. I saw him on the sideline. He is one of the toughest people I know, and to see him in so much pain really broke my heart. We kind of knew – thought we knew what it was on the sideline talking to him. After the game when I got home, I gave him a call and actually went over to his house to kind off take his mind off of the inevitability of the next day, and just trying to take his mind off of being upset and disappointed. It hurts all of us, I know it hurts Steeler Nation….he just plays at such a high level. His leadership, his energy, his excitement, just everything he brought to the table for so many years here in Pittsburgh. It’s just tough for everybody.

On the loss to the Saints –

There were a lot of emotions after the game. Disappointment and disbelief in myself that I just didn’t play well and for no apparent rhyme or reason…I was disappointed that I didn’t make all the throws that I wanted to make and give our guys chances to make plays. You gotta win the home games. I mean how important that game was to us, I just felt like I let so many people down and that was probably the hardest thing after the game.

At halftime, I sat down and did kind of a self-evaluation on why some of the passes were sailing high – a lot of times I felt like my elbow was dropping down a little too low which made the ball sail on me, so again at halftime after I came out I threw a couple passes and really focused on keeping my arm high coming over the top with it, and it felt a lot better in the second half. Sometimes your mechanics get away from you a little bit.

I watched it on film a couple of times and there were a couple of throws there I just wasn’t quite stepping into the throw so I was throwing off my back foot a little […]
