Big Ben on 93.7 The Fan
“I could get five, six or seven more years out of these arms and legs. This is home for me and where I want to finish. I bleed Black and Gold.” — Ben, from his radio interview.
Ben was a call-in guest today on The Cook and Poni Show:
On the NFL Draft this week –
“You know what, I can’t wait for this to be finally over with! I mean, this has been dragged out! I’ve seen ‘Mock Draft 13.5’…it’s just going on and on and on! I’ll be excited so we can finally get this thing over with and to finally figure out who our new teammates are going to be and move on!
“Whatever the high powers decide can help this team is what I am going for. Anything to help the team, 8-8 is not good enough. We have to get back to winning Super Bowls.”
On Central Florida’s Blake Bortles –
“I talked to Blake, and I know Blake has that fiery chip. I think he’s going to be the best one of the group because I see something in him, his competiveness, his leadership. And I think he’s got a lot of upside.
“If you’re a guy that comes out of a smaller school I think you should have a chip on your shoulder. It helps motivate you.”
On Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel –
“We’ve seen some of the scrambling, jumping, throwing, flipping type things he can do and it makes your jaw drop because it’s special stuff. Does that translate to the NFL? I don’t know?
“He has so much upside, but we will have to see. He’ll come into this league and he’ll probably be a star early because he’ll use his athleticism, but it’s not about the first year. It’s about the second, third and fourth years.
“I was in the weight room the other day with Joey Porter asking me what I thought about Manziel. I looked at Joey and said, `Joey, do you think if you got a good hit on him, that he would be OK? And he said, `No, not at all.’ And that’s my question?
“You have guys like Joey Porter, who’s a big guy, guys that are fast like Troy, Ike Taylor coming off the edge, Lawrence Timmons – you’d better be real athletic, […]
On the green for a good cause
Brian Beall wanted to thank Ben for his participation at a charity golf tournament this past weekend, and wanted to do so through Ben’s website.
Brian, consider it done:
Ben came to Findlay, Ohio this past week to visit and play in a charity golf event for the Humane Society and SPCA of Hancock County.
He played for my business, Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic, as a substitute golfer for Dr. Tony Fuller, D.V.M.
This is a great event for a good cause!
The weather was challenging, but with Ben’s help we were able to win First Place! This is a picture of our team. I am the farthest away, then Jason Lane with the blue cap, Mike Dowling without a hat, and then Ben, of course.
For him to come back to Findlay is great any time, but taking time to support the local pet population and Humane Society specifically was especially generous. In fact, they were so excited they did not believe he was actually there when we checked in. The woman who checked us in almost fainted, lol.
Thank you Ben!! — Brian

“My husband and I had a great time at the fundraising event last night with Ben and all the other players. Ben was humble and polite when I came in contact with him. I want to thank him for his hospitality. It has become an infamous story today about my husband starting a conversation because I was a little awestruck. Ben literally said, “Oh, I’m Ben by the way…” while we were talking to him and shook both our hands. That was sincere. My husband and I are both children services social workers so we work a lot with the police departments in the counties we work in. It was definitely a good cause .” — Mikki Deal-Hendon (photo above).

April’s Fan Photos are here!
And to commemorate the 10th Anniversary this month of #7’s selection in the 2004 NFL Draft, we give you 10 #7’s – courtesy of some great fans!
We start with a ‘thank you’ to Ben from a father that wanted to share it with Steeler Nation:
Ben, you mean a lot for Anna Sophie!! You sent her an autographed photo which we appreciate with all our hearts! God bless you!
My lovely daughter underwent a second bone marrow transplant on March 21, because of the Leukemia diagnosis. We are so blessed that everything came on Divine time from Our Lord.
Anna Sophie is doing great. Today she has been declared grafted, which means that she’s been cured.
Since the diagnosis, on Nov 7th in 2012, I’ve been writing a diary, always inspired somehow by the spirit of the Steelers team. Anna Sophie is always keeping her Ben autographed picture, even at the hospital (she is still in the hospital due to post-transplant care). That is something that I will always appreciate. — Esteban Manuel González Cárdenas

Right: And from Tampico, Mexico, Emiliano Patraca and Maximiliano Patraca are “so proud to wear #7!!”.
The Dixon Family of Big Ben fans:
“Our family has been Steelers fans as long as I can remember. My dad’s side of the family is from Tyrone, PA. Its kind of funny to write about this because Ben and I are the same age and we both have sons really close in age too. Maverick was born a Steelers fan because the day after he was born, August 8, 2013, they played their first preseason game. We as the Dixon family try to install the #SteelerNation in our children’s head from birth. Again, thank you for posting the picture. It means a lot!!” — Bryan, Kayla & Maverick Dixon.
School Photo Day? No problem, I know exactly what I want to wear!

“Moore adjusting from Brees to Ben”
From Mike Prisuta, Steelers.com this afternoon:
Catching passes was a Brees for Lance Moore during his first eight NFL seasons in New Orleans. But since signing on with the Steelers, it’s a whole new ballgame now that Ben Roethlisberger is launching footballs in Moore’s direction rather than the Saints’ Drew Brees.
“They’re different style quarterbacks,” Moore observed today during a lull at the Steelers’ practice facility. “I would say Ben’s got a little bit stronger arm, maybe a lot stronger arm. Just from a couple of days throwing with him here, that’s something that kind of jumps out at me. If you’re kind of, I call it lazy with your eyes, that ball will zoom right past you.”
Moore’s latest exposure to Roethlisberger is more of a reintroduction. Their paths crossed when Moore played at Toledo and Roethlisberger was at Miami, Ohio.
“I actually played against Ben in college,” Moore said. “The same kind of stuff that he did in college he’s doing now in the NFL, just being able to create time with his legs a little bit and make some of those crazy throws that a lot of quarterbacks aren’t even thinking about making.”
