Ben overcame a hit to the knee throwing for 298 yards and 1 touchdown finishing with a passer rating of 115.7 in his 70th career win.
“I’m still not sure how Ben Roethlisberger’s right knee didn’t come apart after that penalized low hit by Seattle defensive end Raheem Brock. At first glance, did anyone think Big Ben wasn’t gone for the year, let alone that he’d stay in and play the rest of the game? The word ‘tough” gets over-used in football, but not this time.” — SI.com’s Don Banks, from his Snap Judgments column.
Highlights from Ben’s post-game comments:
On the first series of the game –
“Just taking what they gave us. I think I hit more check-downs today than I have in a long time. It just proves that our guys can get it done even when you get them the ball short; you don’t have to go deep every time.”
On his decision to go to the no-huddle without “prompting” from the sideline –
“B.A. was calling the next play and I was waving everyone off. We went to it and it didn’t seem like anyone blinked.”
On the injury to his knee –
“It was scary. Knees are nothing to play around with. Structurally, it felt fine. But the good thing was I didn’t feel anything pop, and the doctors examined it and moved the knee around and everything was stable. Then it was just a matter of playing through the pain.”
On whether he was pleased with the offense’s performance this week –
“We made improvements, but there’s still a long way to go for us.”
On his thoughts overall of today’s win –
“I felt like we could have scored a lot more points than we did, but we won the game and that’s what’s most important right now.”

Preview: Seahawks vs Steelers
He’s a big, physical dude and he has a formula for success and it’ s proven year in and year out. He moves the ship. If we affect him, we affect the team because he’s the engine.” — Seahawks LB David Hawthorne on Ben.
“He’s an amazing player in general. But when he really goes off the charts is when the play rhythm changes and he moves out of the pocket, or he moves in the pocket and throws somebody on the ground and finds an open receiver and makes an incredible throw. He’s incredible at finding guys down field with all the chaos going on around him. He’s more dangerous when he gets on the loose.” — Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on preparing for Ben.
From Danny O’Neil, The Seattle Times:
Welcome to Blitzburgh, a town where the linebackers eat meat, floss with opposing quarterbacks and the crowd’s devotion to its defense unites generations.
“They love their team with a deep connection,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “They show it when they play.”
Carroll’s Seahawks will feel that Sunday when one of the league’s youngest teams continues to search for its new identity against the Steelers, an experienced heavyweight that will be looking to work out some of last week’s frustrations.
“It’s a great opportunity for us,” Carroll said. “It’s going to be as difficult as it can get.”
So has Pittsburgh gotten old?
“You hear that every year,” said linebacker James Harrison, one of Pittsburgh’s holdovers from Super Bowl XL. “It’s not like they say, ‘You know, that defense, their age is just right to succeed.’ It’s either you’re too young or you’re too old.
“So I don’t really pay any attention to it.”

From Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
One thing Roethlisberger promised to change against the Seattle Seahawks is the use of the no-huddle offense. The Steelers did not show it in Baltimore; they will Sunday in Heinz Field, he vowed.
“Yeah, I’ll make sure of that. We need to. We didn’t do it at all the last […]

Ben: “We just move on”
“I was talking to coach LeBeau and we used our mulligan on the first tee, we take our penalty stroke and we’ve got 17 more holes to birdie.” — Ben on last Sunday’s loss.
Ben spoke to the media today after practice. Some of the highlights:
“There is no panic coming from this group. We know we had a bad day and I hate to take anything from Baltimore, but we had a bad day.
“We didn’t play well. I particularly didn’t play well at all. Of course it’s frustrating because, especially the week leading up to the game I felt better than I ever felt, and I felt good out there – felt real comfortable.
“I think we’re all entitled to a bad day now and then. We just move on. That’s why I say it’s in the rear view mirror and we move on and get ready for this [week’s] game.”
You can watch video of his interview here.
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll also spoke to the media today and had this to say about Ben:
“He’s such a big, strong guy that he can just shed the rush. You have to really work to get him down. And he does not give up on a play. He won’t throw the ball away. He won’t waste a play – he’s going to go find something to do with it, because he’s been so good at it.
“And so, boy, there’s a big play just waiting to happen with him. He’s a very, very volatile football player that we have to a great job with in coverage, we have to stay on top. And then we have to stay alive on our rushes so we can get to him and hopefully keep him from making those types of plays.”

Ron Cook: Don’t write off season just yet
From Mr. Cook’s column at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette today:
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a brief chat with linebacker James Farrior near the end of their 35-7 smackdown Sunday by the Baltimore Ravens. It was a man-to-man talk. It was a captain-to-captain talk. And it wasn’t anything like you might imagine.
“There’s not much we can do about this game. Let’s just make sure we stay together and keep fighting as an offense and a defense. Let’s don’t let anything come between us. I know we won’t.”
I know what a leader Roethlisberger has become. He played a miserable game Sunday against a team he had owned and had beaten seven consecutive times. But his body language never betrayed him. He knew he couldn’t afford to sulk. He knew teammates were watching him.
“I grabbed the offense and told the guys, ‘The season isn’t won or lost today. The division isn’t won or lost today. We just have to regroup,’ ” Roethlisberger said.
Presumably, Farrior said the same thing to his defense. I know what a leader he is, as well.
Most of all, I know what a leader coach Mike Tomlin is.
Is it really that much of a stretch to think Tomlin will bring the Steelers back again?
Not for me.

Over 500 passing yards in a game? Ben there, done that!
Last night, the Patriots’ Tom Brady became just the 11th quarterback in the 92 year history of the NFL to pass for more than 500 yards in a single game as his team won 34- 24 against the Dolphins in Miami.
It’s an exclusive club that includes Hall of Famers like Norm Van Brocklin, Y.A. Tittle, Dan Marino and Warren Moon.
It’s a club that also includes Big Ben. He is also just the third player to throw for 500 yards and 3 TDs without an interception:

Warren Moon – 527 yards, 5 TDs
Boomer Esiason – 522 yards, 3 TDs
