“Air Pittsburgh”

From an article this evening by the Mike Bires, at the Beaver County Times:

If Ben Roethlisberger called the plays this season, the Steelers’ offense would be called “Air Pittsburgh.”

“We should throw every play,” he said.

Roethlisberger, who’s entering his eighth season, wasn’t totally serious when he made that comment. Obviously, as a quarterback, he’d like to throw the ball as often as possible but he knows that in order to be effective, there has to be some kind of balance between pass and run.

“We have all this talent. We can be as good as we want to be,” he said. “We can run the ball. We can throw the ball. But it’s going to be up to us. Can we identify (opposing defenses)? Can we (pass) protect? Can we open up holes? Can we throw? Can we catch?

“As an offense, we want to score a lot of points and make it easier for our defense,” Roethlisberger said.

Ben’s Interview with KDKA, Part II

Short excerpts from the second of Ben’s two-part interview with KDKA‘s Bob Pompeani this evening:

Mr. Pompeani: “This is also the time of the year, Ben, for fantasy football…Quarterbacks – who would you pick?”

Ben: “Probably either Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.”

Mr. Pompeani: “Would you want to be a No. 1 pick in somebody’s fantasy draft?”

Ben: “That’s an honor, but I’d tell them they’re stupid. [Laughs] I shouldn’t say stupid.

“They’re ridiculous for picking me first because I’m probably not going to put up the numbers others would.”

You can read the rest of Ben’s interview here.

You can watch video of his interviews: Part I and Part II.

Also This Evening:

During the Pre-Season Game between the Steelers and the Redskins at FedEx Field, Ben was used sparingly. He played just one series, completing 2 of 3 passes for 22 yards.

As to the injury…

“QB Ben Roethlisberger had to ice his hand and his hip after suffering minor injuries while playing in Pittsburgh’s first offensive series. Roethlisberger  should be fine.” — From CBS Sports.

You can see photos from the game here.

Ben’s interview with KDKA

Excerpt from Part I of Ben’s interview with KDKA‘s Bob Pompeani, shown this evening during the station’s 6:00 pm broadcast:

Mr. Pompeani: “Twitter – very popular thing these days, but I notice you don’t Twitter. First of all, why not?”

Ben: “I’m sure it’s great for some players. That’s how they want to connect to their fans and stuff, but I think it’s an opportunity for you to get in a lot of trouble because it’s right at the palm of your fingers. In a time of passion, in time of emotion and not thinking, you could say whatever you want and you can’t take it back. The second you hit send or however it works, the whole world knows about it and I think that’s very dangerous, and I also think that in an athlete’s life and in a person’s life of celebrity status or whatever, you’re looking for your privacy. I don’t understand how people complain about their privacy, but yet, they’re tweeting what they’re eating and what they’re doing, so it’s just kind of counterproductive if you ask me.”

You can read more from his interview here.

You can watch video of his interview here.

Note: Part II of the interview can be seen Friday evening during KDKA’s 6:00 pm news telecast.

Now we do have a Twitter feed for website updates that you are welcome to follow, as well as a website page on Facebook for you to “Like” and/or comment on!

And for all those that have already asked, Ben was wearing a t-shirt from Brett Keisel’s “Da Beard Gear” collection! You can check out Brett’s online store here.
