Lose a bet…
and you get put on my website!
Ryan Scarpino, one of our PR guys who went to Ohio University, lost a bet last week when my Redhawks beat his Bobcats! So his punishment?
Wear my college jersey and sing the Miami fight song, here it is!
Thanks Redhawks and congrats on a great win! — Ben
Wednesday’s chat with the media
Ben spoke to the media this afternoon about the Steelers upcoming game with the New York Giants, Max Starks, Heath Miller, and Eli.
On those affected by Hurricane Sandy –
Your heart goes out for all the families, the people, everybody up there that is going through a really tough time right now. It’s just a crazy thing that’s going on right now. Like I said, our thoughts and prayers are with everybody.
On Max Starks –
I couldn’t be more proud of him. He’s a new dad. It’s awesome to have him out there because I’ve got so much confidence in him having my blind side. I just always know that he’s going to be a guy you can trust and count on. He’s been there for this organization and for me for a long time.
On whether he is looking more toward TE Heath Miller this season, particularly in the red zone?
Yeah, I mean he is who he is. He’s a great player. I just have comfort in him. It’s not necessarily because we call more plays for him. It’s just the way it is. He’s getting open and we are calling some more things for him.
On whether he thinks he or Eli Manning is the better quarterback from the 2004 Draft?
Eli. He’s got the most recent championship and he’s a good player. I’m happy to be here and he’s happy to be there I’m sure.

Tuesday is Fan Photos Day!
We have lots of Lil’ Fans, a few Lil’ Teammates, with a lot of love for #43, some big Steelers fans and families (including a special tribute to one fan), and even another Steelers pet added to the photo gallery today!
Little #7 fans:
That’s Tenalee Schumacher on the left, and Kenzie Roskovich on the right! Oh, and that’s “Snoop” in the middle getting some love!
“Tenalee was born during the Season Opener 2 years ago, and Kenzie was born during the Browns game (on 1/3) of the same season! Cousins who were literally born Steelers fans!” — Chad Roskovich
Big #7 fans, all in a row:
“Left to right in the photo is my fiancee, Kristin Nugent, followed by Mike Durcho, Jason Keim, and me…and of course our dog Daisy. This photo was taken the opening game of the season against Denver. We were doin’ a little pre-gaming when we all noticed we had ‘Ben’ jerseys on, and each one was different. We had Ben’s Away, Throwback, Real Tree, and his college jersey. Of course we’re all life-long Steeler fans from Johnstown, PA and we’re all huge Ben fans.
“For myself, I’ve been waiting what seems like my whole life for a quarterback as good as Big Ben. His toughness, leadership, and all around ability to lead the Steelers to victory is what makes Ben an easy favorite. Everyone in this photo says the same thing, when Ben is at the helm, it seem like we can’t lose. We know as long as he’s in the game, the Steelers got a shot to win. We are all proud members of Steeler nation, and proud fans of Ben Roethlisberger. “— Chris Voytko

When Killer Bees attack!!
“It’s fun having so many weapons and being able to throw to anybody, getting Will his first touchdown. I was yelling, ‘hurry up, turn around, you’re open!’. It’s just so much fun having so many weapons and playing as a whole team.” — Ben, post-game.
From Will Graves, AP:
Wearing throwback jerseys that made them resemble hulking bumblebees, the Steelers swarmed Washington’s precocious star in a 27-12 victory on Sunday.
The Steelers (4-3) improved to 14-1 against rookie quarterbacks since 2004, doing to Griffin what they’ve done to the likes of Eli Manning and Joe Flacco.
“It is very frustrating,” Griffin said. “You want to go out, be successful, execute plays and have everything work for you and then when you have a day like today when you have almost nothing work for you.”
Ben Roethlisberger had no such issues against Washington’s depleted defense, throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns as the Steelers won consecutive games for the first time this season.
“Ben says, ‘Not so fast young man, I’m pretty good too!'”. — FOX NFL Sunday‘s Howie Long on what Ben was thinking after the first half.
Jonathan Dwyer added 107 yards rushing in his second NFL start while Heath Miller caught four passes for 46 yards and his sixth touchdown of the season. Pittsburgh scored on its first four possessions to take control early and had little trouble moving above .500.
Suddenly, the team that looked sluggish during early losses to Oakland and Tennessee appears to be its normal, dangerous self in a wide-open AFC.
Roethlisberger continued to thrive in new offensive coordinator Todd Haley’s system while Dwyer, starting in place of injured Rashard Mendenhall, became the first Steelers running back to top 100 yards in consecutive games in four years.
“Anytime we can mix it up and be balanced, and we’ve always said that’s what we want to be – a balanced offense, and I feel like we’re doing that right now.” — Ben.

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at work
Last year, on September 7th, 2011, the first grant of the NFL season was awarded to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, in Rockville, Maryland.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office used the grant to purchase four “K9 Storm” bullet proof vests, to help protect the department’s four highly specialized canine teams.
All members of the Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit are trained as dual purpose K9s for the detection of explosives as well as patrol functions. The grant added another level of safety for the canines while they handle their duties both in and around the Montgomery County area, protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Maryland and surrounding states.
Sheriff Darren M. Popkin said at the time that “the grant funds will provide our dogs with vests that protect them from attacks with firearms and knifes while engaged in their duties.”
A year later, the Sheriff’s Office sent an email to thank Ben once again for the grant:
“The Montgomery County (MD) Sheriffs Office wanted to again thank Ben Roethlisberger and bigben7.com for the support you have shown our office in the past. Last year we were able to purchase ballistic vests for all of our K9s because of your support.” — Deputy Sheriff James Johnson, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The department also sent photos and a story about “Logen”, their K9-to-be (he’s got a little growin’ up to do first!)!
Little Logen, a pure bred German Shepherd Pup, was born on April 23, 2012. His father “Leon” is a working Police dog in Maryland ,and his mother “Echo” has bred other puppies that have become successful Police and Search and Rescue dogs.
Once he is trained, Logen will be wearing a “K9 Storm” bullet proof vest and will be able to track humans and locate evidence….but first he has to get big enough to jump into the back of a police vehicle unassisted!
You can read about Logen here!
You can read more about The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation here. You’ll also find information on making a donation to the foundation!
