Steelers 27, Titans 24
“It wasn’t pretty early. It was not really one of those that you’re going to go home and watch the whole thing and be proud of, but at the end of the day it’s the scoreboard that matters.” — Ben, post-game.
From Larry Hartstein, CBS Sports:
Facing an onslaught of Titans’ blitzes, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 21 of 32 throws for 207 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Monday’s 27-24 road win.
Despite absorbing five sacks and several other big hits, Roethlisberger led consecutive second-half touchdown drives to secure the victory.
From Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh-Post Gazette:
The Steelers trailed the lowly Tennessee Titans by 11 points in the fourth quarter, and it looked as if another of the NFL’s bottom feeders would claim them as a victim.
And then the Bell went off in the fourth quarter for them.
Le’Veon Bell, who told his teammates Sunday night that he would rush for 150 yards, rushed for 74 of his 204 yards in the fourth quarter, including their first offensive touchdown, as he put the team on his back and carried them to a 27-24 victory.
“He was so impressive,” Roethlisberger said of the second-year halfback. “The things he does — catches the ball, runs the ball with power, finesse.”

Ben’s Foundation: Two K-9 Grants awarded in the Nashville Area
Today, Ben announced the eighth and ninth grants of the 2014-15 season from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at The Giving Back Fund.
“We’re very fortunate to be in the position that we are able to help these K-9 units. The work that is performed by the dogs and their handlers as well as the bond that is formed is incredible. We’re just thrilled to do our small part.” — Ben.
The Foundation will be distributing grants to the Oneida Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department outside of Nashville where the Steelers will play the Titans on November 17th on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will purchase a dual purpose dog and two safety vests for its K-9s, while the Oneida Police Department plans to fill the void left in their unit with the passing of their only dog this past May.
This marks the eighth season that the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation has distributed grants to K-9 units. The mission of the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation is to support K-9 units of police and fire departments throughout the United States with a particular emphasis on support for service dogs in Pittsburgh, PA. Roethlisberger and the Foundation also strive to support Make-A-Wish.
Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said, “As Sheriff of Putnam County, Tennessee, I am proud and honored to lead the agency that has been chosen as a recipient of a Ben Roethlisberger Foundation K-9 grant. The citizens of Putnam County rely on our agency to provide a safe community. To achieve this, it is vital for us to have quality trained personnel and resources. The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation grant will enable our agency to retire one of our older K-9s and purchase a new narcotics/patrol dog as well as pay for the necessary training and certification for our handlers and equip our patrol dogs with safety vests.”
K-9 Officer Steven Ward of the Oneida Police Department said, “In May of this year, the Oneida Police Department’s narcotic dog, Jinks, suddenly passed away while on duty. Our department is small and we have a very limited budget. Due to the high cost, we were concerned that we may be unable to purchase a new narcotics detection dog. But thanks to the kindness and generosity […]
Wednesday: Ben’s meeting with the media
“I’ll start just by saying, since I didn’t talk to you yesterday, thanks to all of our veterans, our troops, people that have served (or) that are serving. Thank you for your support and your service both foreign and domestic. We couldn’t do what we do, which is play the game of football, without all of you. So thank you all very much.” — Ben.
From Steelers.com this afternoon:
What have you learned from Alejandro Villanueva and how cool is it that he is coming on this trip?
It’s great. We went to Coach Tomlin with an idea and we knew he’d be receptive to it. I think it’s the least that we can do for someone that has done so much for our country.
Did you know that Rodgers Freyvogel is a Marine?
I did not know that. Well thanks to Rodgers, too.
Is there a little extra motivation to get a win for Coach Munchak this week?
Well I think the biggest think for Coach Munchak this week is to make sure he goes to the right locker room (jokingly). If he goes to the wrong one (then) we’re in trouble. But I think you can tell a little bit today that he has a little extra in him. I’m sure the line can answer that question better than me because they’re around him all the time. But we want to win this game for everybody. It would be kind of special for him to go there and get a win.
What about facing Ken Whisenhunt?
Yes, and Ray Horton, and I’m not sure who is all on their staff that we know. It’s special because I know Coach Whiz, and I have a pretty good relationship with him now. We text and keep in contact throughout the seasons. It will be special to go against him again.
Did you and Whisenhunt always have a pretty good relationship?
Yeah, in the last 6-7 years for sure.
Did you have a good relationship the first couple of years you two were together?
I never really had an issue with coach. We butted heads as lots of people do, but I don’t think it was any issue. B.A. (Bruce Arians) and I butted heads, too, and you would have thought we were too close.
What will it take for the team for you […]
A Veterans Day salute
To Noah Galloway!
“A big part of my success in the running for the Kenneth Cole’s Mankind and Men’s Health Ultimate Guy Search is owed to the amazing Steeler Nation that supported me all the way. Y’all Got me on the cover of the world’s largest men’s magazine, I can’t thank y’all enough.” — Noah.
After meeting Ben at the airport on his way back from completing the White Sands Missile Range 23rd Annual Bataan Memorial Death March in March of 2012, he and Ben became friends. In August of 2013, he was Ben’s guest at Steelers training camp, and made many more friends among Ben’s teammates.
The cover “story”:
Nearly 10 years ago, Iraq war veteran Noah Galloway was lying in a hospital bed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C., grappling with having lost an arm and a leg due to a roadside explosion. His extensive injuries plunged him into depression. And as recently as five years ago, Galloway says was spending the majority of his days smoking, drinking, and sleeping. Today, the inspiring, super-fit 33-year-old is on the cover of Men’s Health—the first reader in the magazine’s 26-year history to score that honor.
Men’s Health received nearly 1,300 entries in its search for the “Ultimate Men’s Health Guy” to be featured on the cover of the magazine’s November 2014 issue. “There were so many amazing men, narrowing the pool down from 1,300 to our three finalists was torture,” said Men’s Health Editor in Chief Bill Phillips.
Ultimately, one line in Galloway’s video entry set him apart. “He said it was his choice whether to be bitter about what happened to him in Iraq, or to be better—and he chose to be better,” Phillips told Yahoo Health. “That’s a lesson we all can learn from. Every day, whether it’s your job or your relationship or somebody Tweets something nasty at you, it’s very easy to become a negative person. Noah reminds us that when we choose to be better, we can quite literally change our mindsets—and our lives.”
The cover search was an exhaustive eight-month process. “It wasn’t like you just had to send us an email—it was like applying for the college boards,” Phillips said.

Jets 20, Steelers 13
“We can’t turn the ball over and we did it too much…We’re going to sit here and chew on this loss, and get to come back to work tomorrow. It will be a new week and new challenges.” — Ben.
Ben finished 30 of 43 for 343 yards and connected with Martavis Bryant for an 80-yard touchdown with 1:16 left in the game, but the Steelers only first-half points came on a 53-yard field goal by Shaun Suisham that cut the deficit to 17-3 as time expired in the second quarter. They attempted an onside kick after that last-minute touchdown, but the Jets’ Eric Decker recovered to seal it for New York.
